In this Diablo 2 Resurrected Beginner’s Guide, we will provide helpful tips and insights for players new to the game or returning after a long time. This guide is perfect for those looking to dive into the upcoming Beta or experiencing Diablo 2 for the first time.
1. Skills
Skills are the primary means of dealing damage to enemies in Diablo 2. All classes start without any Skills, but some have starting Weapons that provide individual skills when equipped. You acquire one Skill Point every time you level up, which can be used to unlock or upgrade Skills. It’s recommended to focus on a single skill tree during your first hours of gameplay.
Assigning and Using Skills
Once you have unlocked a skill, you can assign it to your normal or secondary attack button. Additionally, you can assign shortcuts to quickly swap between different spells during battle. Keep in mind that you can respec your character after completing the first quest of the game called Den of Evil. However, this is the only respec available during early gameplay and the Beta, so save it for when you need it.
2. Stats
You’ll receive five stat points to distribute every time you level up. There are four different Stats in Diablo 2: Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, and Energy. Strength affects equipment requirements and melee damage, Vitality determines health and stamina, Dexterity controls attack rating and some equipment requirements, and Energy increases total mana.
3. Inventory, Stash, and Tomes
Diablo 2 utilizes a grid inventory system which makes item management crucial. You’ll also find a Stash in town where you can store items and gold shared between all your characters. Additionally, purchase Tomes of Town Portal and Tomes of Identify early in the game to store Scrolls of Town Portal and Identify.
4. Exploring the Map and Waypoints
Diablo 2 features large locations with randomized maps in multiplayer. Follow roads to find your next objective and use waypoints as checkpoints between different locations in each Act. Keep Stamina Potions in your inventory to avoid running out of stamina while exploring.
5. Equipment
Enemies drop loot of varying rarities, and understanding the differences between Normal, Magical, Rare, Crafted, Set, and Unique Items will help you determine what to pick up. Elite and Unique enemies have a higher chance to drop higher rarity items, so prioritize defeating these foes.
6. Mercenaries
These computer-controlled companions assist in combat by dealing damage and luring enemies away from you. Give Mercenaries equipment by pressing ‘O’ and provide healing potions when needed.
7. Dying and Retrieving Your Corpse
When you die, you respawn at town without equipment, and you must retrieve your items from your corpse. If attempting to do so becomes too difficult, leave the current game and create a new one, where your corpse will appear in town with your equipment.
