Assassin's Creed: Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis Essential Tips

Essential tips for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis, covering access, Elysium, the Underworld, Atlantis, combat, and cleanup.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis is the second paid story DLC for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft. It is not a standalone game: you need Odyssey installed, then the DLC sends the player through Elysium, the Underworld, and Atlantis while expanding the Isu side of the story.

This is an intermediate guide because the DLC assumes you understand Odyssey’s combat, gear, abilities, and late-game quest structure. If you enter through the shortcut, treat it as a contained DLC save with limits; if you enter from your main save, make sure your build can survive serious mythic fights.

Content warning: The Fate of Atlantis is mature-rated and includes violent combat, blood, strong language, and adult content-rating themes. This guide keeps its advice non-graphic and focused on play.

Essential Tips

1. Start From the Right Save

The cleanest path is to enter from a main Odyssey save after reaching at least level 28 and finishing Between Two Worlds plus The Heir of Memories. That keeps your campaign progress, gear, and achievement eligibility intact.

The shortcut is useful if you only want to sample the arc, but it is a tradeoff. It starts you at a high DLC-ready level with preset resources, and that progress does not carry back to your main campaign or count for achievements. Use it for replay, not for your primary completion file.

2. Treat Elysium as a New Map, Not a Side Room

Fields of Elysium adds a full region with outposts, skill-point rewards, powerful gear, and a fast-travel portal back to Greece. Explore freely rather than sprinting between story missions: visit nearby outposts, collect rewards along the way, and use the travel connection to keep return trips manageable.

The official episode overview explicitly rewards free-roaming exploration. Divide Elysium into small sweeps and finish nearby destinations before advancing the next story objective so skill points and gear build naturally instead of becoming a separate cleanup job.

3. Keep a Bow Ready for Objective Work

Do not rely only on melee damage. Elysium introduces Torches of Hypnos, objectives that must be destroyed with arrows. A reliable bow also gives you a tested damage option during the mobile Cerberos encounter later in the arc.

Before pushing deep into the DLC, check your arrow supply and become comfortable switching between ranged and melee attacks. Keep enough arrows available for Torches and for the periods when Cerberos is difficult to approach safely.

4. Track Episode One’s Isu Characters

The first episode includes missions involving Persephone, Hermes, and Hekate. Keep track of which figure assigned the current objective and what that mission asks you to do, especially when returning after a break.

The arc becomes easier to follow when you separate character-led missions from Elysium’s outpost, Torch, tribute, overseer, and conquest goals. Finish a coherent group of objectives before switching to a different character or checklist.

5. Respect Cerberos as a Wake-Up Fight

Torment of Hades opens with Cerberos, and the fight is meant to reset your expectations. Dodge pounces and fire attacks instead of trying to face-tank them. Arrows give steady damage while the boss stays mobile, then melee and overpower attacks become safer after a pounce creates an opening.

If the fight feels messy, slow down. Heal, dodge, and learn the timing before spending adrenaline. The DLC only gets stranger from there, so use Cerberos to tighten your defensive habits.

6. Handle Tartaros Rifts Before They Spiral

In the Underworld, Tartaros Rifts can cap your health until their guardians are defeated. That makes careless aggression dangerous even for strong characters. When you enter a rift space, identify guardians, separate enemies when possible, and finish the rift goal before treating the area like normal cleanup.

Do not drag outside enemies into a rift fight. The health limitation is already enough pressure; adding extra guards turns a controlled encounter into a resource drain.

7. Track the Fallen and Their Armor

Torment of Hades replaces the usual mercenary ladder with the Fallen hierarchy. Fallen enemies are not just optional nameplates; they carry pieces of the Armor of the Fallen, and the completed set is needed to access some places meant for the dead.

When the episode points you toward Fallen targets, take the hint. Hunt them with the same patience you would use for high-rank mercenaries: scout the area, open with advantage, and avoid starting the fight in the middle of unrelated enemies.

8. Collect Keeper’s Insights as You Explore

Keeper’s Insights appear in achievement goals across all three episodes. You do not need to turn the first run into a rigid checklist, but collecting Insights as you encounter them prevents the same objective from becoming a three-realm cleanup project later.

The best habit is simple: make a brief cleanup pass before advancing each realm’s major story. Review the episode’s Insight and other achievement goals, then finish the nearby tasks you already know you want to complete.

9. Separate Episode Goals in Your Head

Elysium emphasizes rebellion, outposts, Marble Maiden Tributes, Overseers, and conquest pressure. The Underworld emphasizes Cerberos, Tartaros Rifts, Fallen targets, and Armor of the Fallen access. Atlantis emphasizes judging citizens, resolving disputes, investigating forbidden research, and acting as Dikastes under Poseidon.

That structure matters. If you bring the same checklist to every realm, you will miss what the episode is teaching. Pause when a new region starts and ask what its special systems are before chasing every icon.

10. Do Cleanup Before Leaving a Realm Behind

The DLC is easier to manage when cleanup happens in short passes. Before you mentally move on from Elysium, make sure you have handled the major outpost, tribute, overseer, conquest, and insight goals you care about. Before leaving the Underworld behind, review rifts, Fallen, and armor access.

You can return, but context fades. Realm-by-realm cleanup keeps the story understandable and prevents a late checklist from becoming a tour through places you barely remember.

Realm-by-Realm Priorities

In Elysium, prioritize exploration. Visit outposts, keep a bow ready for Torches of Hypnos, and collect the skill points and gear offered by free roaming. Do not reduce the region to a straight main-quest corridor.

In the Underworld, think defensively. Cerberos teaches dodge discipline, Tartaros Rifts punish sloppy crowd control, and Fallen targets ask for patient preparation. The Armor of the Fallen is more than fashion, so keep its pieces in mind as you work through the episode.

In Atlantis, think like a judge. The final episode asks you to settle disputes, investigate forbidden research, and respond to the friction between humans and Isu. Combat still matters, but many objectives are built around reading the situation before deciding what kind of ruler you want to be.

Combat and Progression Habits

Bring more than one practiced response. Arrows solve Torches of Hypnos and provide reliable damage against Cerberos; dodging handles the boss’s pounces and fire; melee and overpower attacks become useful after a pounce creates an opening. Tartaros Rifts then test whether you can stay controlled while health is capped.

Before long objective chains, review the current episode’s open goals. The Fate of Atlantis is episodic, and each realm has its own rhythm. Tracking the realm-specific achievements and progression hooks keeps one episode’s cleanup from spilling confusingly into the next.

Finally, let the current realm determine what you practice. Elysium asks for reliable arrow use, while the Underworld emphasizes Cerberos timing, Rift guardians, Fallen targets, and armor access. Atlantis shifts attention toward disputes, investigations, and the responsibilities of the Dikastes under Poseidon.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Starting from the shortcut on your main run - use your real save if you want campaign continuity and achievement credit.

  2. Entering before finishing the prerequisite quests - complete the Atlantis setup in Odyssey before expecting the DLC to flow naturally.

  3. Ignoring bow readiness - Torches of Hypnos and several fights are easier when ranged tools are reliable.

  4. Rushing through Elysium - visit outposts and collect nearby skill-point and gear rewards instead of following only the main story.

  5. Face-tanking Cerberos - dodge fire and pounces, then punish safe openings instead of trading blows.

  6. Letting Tartaros Rifts stack pressure - clear guardians promptly when your health is capped.

  7. Skipping Fallen targets - their armor pieces matter for Underworld progression access.

  8. Treating every realm the same - adjust your priorities for Elysium, the Underworld, and Atlantis.

  9. Leaving all Keeper’s Insights for later - collect them during natural exploration to reduce cleanup.

  10. Mixing every realm’s checklist together - finish a coherent group of episode-specific goals before moving on.
