Dofus Beginner Tips - Quests, Combat, Classes, and Kamas

Dofus beginner tips for the live tactical MMO: tutorial, AP and MP, classes, Incarnam and Astrub quests, professions, markets, servers, subscriptions, and events.

On this page

Dofus, developed and published by Ankama, is a live tactical MMORPG about adventuring through the World of Twelve, learning turn-based combat, building a class, completing quests, crafting, trading, grouping, and chasing the Dofus eggs. This guide is for current PC DOFUS/Unity-era DOFUS, not DOFUS Retro, DOFUS Touch, or WAKFU.

Rating note: Dofus 2.0 has been listed as Not Rated, age 13+, with fantasy violence, open chat, subscription purchases, and mild suggestive humor. This guide keeps those themes non-graphic and focuses on play.

Patch note: This guide is scoped to the Update 3.6 era, including “Raid Is Not Dead” and patches through 3.6.6.5. Check current patch notes, server status, class balance, raids, event dates, subscription/Ogrine terms, and market behavior before making expensive or permanent choices.

Essential Tips

1. Make Sure You Are Playing the Right Dofus

Ankama has several similar-looking games with different rules.

Use this guide for live PC DOFUS. DOFUS Retro is the original-version branch, DOFUS Touch is a separate mobile branch, and WAKFU is another Ankama MMO in the same broader universe. Quest names, classes, servers, subscriptions, interfaces, and updates can differ between them.

2. Choose Server Mode Before You Choose a Server Name

Single-account and multi-account play create different social expectations.

Official support snippets distinguish single-account and multi-account server contexts, but live server names, merges, language communities, and population change. Before creating your main character, check the current client for server mode, friends, language, latency, subscription requirements, and whether the community you want is active there.

3. Finish the Tutorial Instead of Clicking Past It

The tutorial teaches the systems that later guides assume you know.

Getting Started covers map movement, talking to NPCs, starting fights, choosing starting cells, moving in combat, using spells, ending turns, equipping items, collecting resources, crafting, and fighting with help. Those are not throwaway lessons in a tactical MMO.

4. Treat AP and MP as Your Real Turn Budget

Every fight is a small resource puzzle.

Movement costs MP. Spells cost AP. Positioning before you attack often matters more than using every spell you can click. If you end a turn exposed, out of range, or unable to finish a target, you may have spent your turn budget in the wrong order.

5. Pick a Class by Role and Comfort, Not One Old Tier List

Class strength changes; class feel matters for hundreds of fights.

Dofus Wiki lists 19 classes with roles such as damage, healing, tanking, protection, positioning, summoning, buffing, and debuffing. Read the class role, test its basic range and movement tools, and avoid locking yourself into a class only because someone called it best during a different patch.

6. Follow Incarnam and Astrub Quests Early

The early achievement path gives structure without needing a farm route.

Quests teach areas, NPCs, combat, delivery objectives, and reward flow. Incarnam and Astrub achievements give you clear first goals, including a path that leads through the early main quests. Use the quest log and achievement panel when you feel lost instead of wandering until monsters stop feeling useful.

7. Let Achievements Guide Your First Dungeon Runs

Dungeons are better when you know what the room is asking of you.

Dungeons are special map sequences with monster rooms, keys or access rules, checkpoints, and possible unique rewards. Early dungeon achievements can teach boss rooms, challenge habits, and group pacing without requiring a full endgame build.

8. Start With One Practical Profession

A profession is a learning tool before it is a money engine.

Gathering teaches routes, resource competition, carrying capacity, and market demand. Crafting teaches recipes, inputs, and fees. Start with something simple enough to use regularly, then branch out when you understand whether the resources, recipes, and market prices are worth your time on your server.

9. Check Market Fees Before Listing Everything

Selling an item is not free, and price changes also have costs.

Markets let players buy and sell resources and equipment in pack sizes, but listing and modifying prices can charge fees. Before you dump your whole inventory, compare prices, pack sizes, and fees so you do not erase the profit from a useful drop.

10. Check Subscription and Ogrine Terms in the Current Client

Subscription rules are part of progression, not just billing.

Free play can teach the early game, but official and review sources both describe the larger world as subscription-gated. Subscription prices, payment methods, Ogrines, packs, rewards, and server access rules are live-service details, so check current terms before planning your whole account around old purchase advice.

11. Use Guilds and Group Tools for Learning, Not Just Carrying

A good group teaches mechanics you cannot see alone.

Update 3.6 includes guild raids and a group-search context, and Dofus has long leaned on guild/social play. Join groups to learn positioning, challenges, dungeons, and current patch expectations. Do not turn your first weeks into passive carries where you never learn why fights were won.

12. Check Events Before Planning Around Them

Seasonal and daily systems are useful because they change.

The Almanax has daily bonuses and offering quests, and official news snippets showed current seasonal/event activity in July 2026. Treat daily offerings, event rewards, raid leaderboards, Twitch drops, and temporary bonuses as current-check items rather than permanent route steps.

Progression and Combat

  1. Read the objective text - Quests can ask for items, monster defeats, NPC visits, or location checks.
  2. Open the quest log often - It is the cleanest way to recover your next step after a break.
  3. Claim achievement rewards as you go - Early rewards help smooth your first gear and kama pressure.
  4. Plan movement before spells - A strong attack is wasted if you walk into bad positioning first.
  5. Use line of sight and range deliberately - If a spell cannot reach after you move, rethink the turn.
  6. Watch turn timers - Ending with unused AP is better than timing out in a dangerous cell.
  7. Test class tools before investing heavily - Range, summons, shields, heals, traps, and positioning all feel different.
  8. Keep build advice current - Element choices, spell values, and class difficulty can shift with updates.

Professions, Markets, and Subscription

  1. Choose a profession you will actually use - A neglected profession does not teach prices or routes.
  2. Compare resource demand before grinding - A common resource is only useful income if players buy it.
  3. Account for listing fees - Market fees can turn a sale that looks profitable into a bad listing.
  4. Do not craft blindly - Check recipe inputs and market prices before converting useful resources.
  5. Keep storage tidy - Mixed quest items, resources, and gear make it harder to see what is safe to sell.
  6. Use subscription as a current-client decision - Check what it unlocks today, on your region and server.
  7. Avoid Ogrine math from old guides - Exchange rates, restrictions, and account rules can change.
  8. Treat events as price shocks - Events and new-player waves can move low-level resources quickly.

Live-Service Checks

  1. Patch notes - Confirm the current build, hotfixes, class changes, raid fixes, and client issues.
  2. Servers - Check live names, single-account/multi-account mode, language community, population, and transfers.
  3. Classes - Check recent balance notes before choosing a long-term class or element.
  4. Events - Confirm event dates, participation rules, rewards, and whether they apply to your server.
  5. Subscription - Check prices, packs, Ogrines, payment methods, and any server access restrictions.
  6. Markets - Use current server prices, not screenshots from another economy.
  7. Raids and group tools - Confirm requirements, rewards, bug fixes, and group expectations in the current patch.
  8. Product branch - Make sure a guide is for DOFUS, not Retro, Touch, or WAKFU.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not skip tutorial fights - You need AP, MP, starting-cell, spell, equipment, resource, and crafting basics.

  2. Do not create your main on a server blindly - Check server mode, language, friends, subscription access, and population first.

  3. Do not choose a class only for current damage claims - Pick a role and playstyle you can keep learning after balance changes.

  4. Do not ignore the quest log - Running in circles wastes more time than reading the next objective.

  5. Do not sell every early resource immediately - Some resources feed quests, professions, or better market timing.

  6. Do not list items without checking fees - Listing and price changes can eat into small sales.

  7. Do not spend all your kamas on temporary gear - Keep enough for travel, profession needs, dungeon access, and replacements.

  8. Do not enter group content without reading the room goal - Dungeons, challenges, and raids punish careless turns.

  9. Do not open the shop and buy the first pack you see - Check the current client, region, server, and payment method.

  10. Do not spend a session chasing an inactive event - Almanax, seasons, conventions, drops, and temporary rewards rotate.
