Dragon Age: Inquisition - Trespasser First-Clear Tips

Spoiler-light Dragon Age: Inquisition - Trespasser tips for preparing your Inquisitor, handling Qunari fights, anchor powers, Trials, and Golden Nug.

On this page

Dragon Age: Inquisition - Trespasser is story DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition, developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. It is the epilogue adventure after the main campaign, not a side region to clear between Hinterlands errands, and it is separate from Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent, and the cosmetic DLC packs.

Content warning: Trespasser is part of a Mature-rated fantasy RPG with blood, intense violence, nudity, sexual content, and strong language. This guide stays non-graphic and focuses on play.

Difficulty caveat: This is a beginner first-clear guide for entering Trespasser cleanly. The DLC itself can still be demanding if your party, gear, and healing habits are underbuilt.

Use this as a spoiler-light checklist before you cross the point where the Inquisition’s future becomes the focus.

Essential Tips

1. Treat Trespasser as the Epilogue

Trespasser is playable after Dragon Age: Inquisition’s main story and is built around the Inquisition’s final political and personal consequences. Do not start it like an ordinary wilderness zone. Finish companion business you care about, spend important resources, handle crafting plans, and make a manual save you can return to.

2. Know the Exact DLC Scope

This guide is for Trespasser only. Jaws of Hakkon is the Avvar/Frostback Basin DLC, The Descent is the Deep Roads earthquake DLC, and the Game of the Year Edition is a bundle that includes several packs. Mixing advice between them causes bad preparation because Trespasser has its own story structure, enemies, and final-state stakes.

3. Bring a Party You Actually Trust

Trespasser leans on companion interactions and combat-heavy route sections. Pick companions whose roles you understand: one durable front line, reliable damage, and support or control you can manage under pressure. A beloved party is fine, but a fragile or unfamiliar one makes Qunari waves feel worse.

4. Prepare for Disciplined Qunari Fights

Qunari forces are the main combat pressure. Expect groups built around melee pressure, ranged threats, and harder elite enemies rather than loose wildlife packs. Upgrade weapons and armor before starting, check accessories, and make sure your party can survive sudden focus fire.

5. Use the Anchor as a Tool

Trespasser turns the Inquisitor’s mark into more than a story symbol. Anchor abilities help with combat, pathing, lighting, and environmental interactions. When the game teaches a new anchor use, practice it immediately instead of treating it as a rare panic button.

6. Watch the Anchor When It Becomes Dangerous

Later in the DLC, the anchor can become unstable enough to punish careless momentum. If the game starts warning you through flares or new behavior, slow down, stabilize the party, and avoid charging into another enemy pack while already stressed.

7. Explore Each Eluvian Area Before Leaving

Trespasser uses Eluvians to move through focused areas rather than huge open-world maps. Before taking the obvious next mirror, sweep nearby rooms, read interactable notes, check corners, and look for supply caches or puzzle objects. The route is more compact than the main game, so missed side rooms are often close by.

8. Do Not Hoard Every Ability Forever

Barrier, guard generation, crowd control, focus abilities, and anchor bursts all matter more when enemies arrive in waves. Use strong tools to win cleanly, then reset between fights. Saving everything for a hypothetical perfect moment often costs more potions than it saves.

9. Keep Manual Saves Before Big Conversations

Trespasser is full of companion, council, and late-story consequences. Make manual saves before major conversations, obvious transitions, and unusual puzzle or combat rooms. You do not need to replay the whole DLC just to revisit one dialogue choice or recovery point.

10. Separate First-Clear Play From Completion Cleanup

A first run is best treated as story, survival, and broad exploration. Exact secret-room routing, codex completion, achievement planning, and every unique item can wait for a second pass or a spoiler-marked route. Trying to perfect every outcome on the first clear makes the DLC slower and easier to spoil.

Before You Start Trespasser

Start by cleaning up anything that matters in the base campaign. Turn in quests you care about, talk to companions and advisors, craft gear, sell junk, and spend or save materials intentionally. Once Trespasser begins, your attention shifts to the Exalted Council, Eluvians, and the DLC’s final mission rhythm.

Check your Inquisitor’s build before you go. You do not need a perfect endgame setup, but you should know which abilities keep you alive, which ones break enemy pressure, and which party members can recover when a fight opens badly. If your current party only works against easy open-world enemies, upgrade it.

Craft or equip gear with Qunari-heavy combat in mind. A practical setup values survivability, reliable damage, and control over novelty. If you have strong anti-humanoid or Qunari-friendly options, bring them. If you do not, prioritize gear that keeps your tank standing and lets damage dealers keep working.

Make at least two manual saves: one before launching the DLC and one after the opening setup. Keep the older save untouched. Trespasser is a story-forward finale, and that backup is the cleanest way to revisit unfinished base-game decisions or companion preparation.

Combat and Anchor Habits

Trespasser rewards calm, compact fighting. When Qunari groups arrive, identify ranged pressure and elite enemies early, pull the party away from bad angles, and do not let assassins or spearmen split your back line from your support. Pause often if you use tactical view; this DLC is a good place to slow fights down.

Anchor powers deserve the same attention as class abilities. They can interact with the environment, create paths, handle darkness, trigger explosive objects, and contribute to damage. If a room seems blocked, scan for anchor prompts before assuming you missed a lever far away.

When gaatlok barrels or other explosive setups appear, respect spacing. The anchor can make these moments useful, but melee-heavy party members can still be in the wrong place if you rush. Set positions, let enemies commit, then use the environment to finish the fight faster.

Potions are for momentum, not panic. Heal early enough that one mistake does not snowball, but avoid burning through supplies while standing near a transition, cache, or reset opportunity. The DLC’s focused structure means a clean regroup often beats forcing one more fight on low resources.

Trials and Golden Nug

Trespasser also brings system features that affect future or challenge-focused play. Trials let you alter game behavior, usually by strengthening enemies or limiting the party, and active Trials can increase special shipment rewards. They are excellent for repeat runs, but do not turn them on blindly before a first Trespasser clear.

If you want a clean story finale, leave harsh Trials off until you understand the route. Even Ground-style scaling and other restrictions can make already tense fights more punishing. If you do enable Trials, do it because you want the added pressure, not because the menu makes them look like harmless bonuses.

The Golden Nug is a collection-sync feature for supported Trespasser-era versions. Use it to carry eligible collection progress into other playthroughs, especially when planning a fresh character or higher-difficulty replay. Keep the platform caveat in mind: the feature belongs to the later PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One-era versions, not the older Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 releases.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not start Trespasser with unfinished companion business you care about - the DLC is an epilogue, and its emotional weight depends on the state you bring into it.

  2. Do not confuse Trespasser with the other Inquisition DLC packs - Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent, and Trespasser ask for different preparation.

  3. Do not bring an experimental party just for banter - choose companions who can survive Qunari pressure and still handle their combat roles.

  4. Do not ignore anchor prompts - the mark is a puzzle, pathing, lighting, and combat tool throughout the DLC.

  5. Do not let the anchor’s later instability surprise you - when the game changes its behavior, slow your pace and protect the party.

  6. Do not sprint through every Eluvian - each compact area may hide notes, supplies, gear, or puzzle context near the main route.

  7. Do not save every powerful ability until the fight is already lost - spend barriers, control, focus, and anchor bursts to keep battles clean.

  8. Do not turn on Trials for a first clear without meaning to - challenge modifiers can make Trespasser sharper than expected.

  9. Do not rely on the Golden Nug on older console versions - plan collection syncing only on supported versions.

  10. Do not chase every secret on the first run - protect the story experience, then return with a spoiler route if you want completion.
