Gunfire Reborn Beginner Tips - Heroes, Weapons, Scrolls, and Co-op

Gunfire Reborn beginner tips for heroes, weapons, scrolls, ascensions, elements, bosses, Reincarnation, and co-op runs.

On this page

Gunfire Reborn is a fast first-person roguelite where each run asks you to improvise around the hero you picked, the guns that drop, the scrolls you find, and the ascensions you are offered. You can play solo or in co-op with up to four players, but the same beginner lesson applies either way: stop chasing a perfect build and start learning how each room, pickup, and boss choice helps the run you actually have.

This guide is built for early and mid-run habits. Seasonal systems, DLC heroes, weapon tuning, and high Reincarnation choices can shift with updates, so treat exact meta rankings as something to check in your own client.

Essential Tips

1. Pick a Hero Plan, Then Adapt

Each hero has different abilities, stats, and ascensions, so your first decision shapes the whole run. Crown Prince, for example, naturally teaches ability use and elemental control, while other heroes push harder toward weapon damage, mobility, summons, defense, or skill chains.

Do not decide on a final build before the first weapon chest. Know what your hero wants in broad terms, then let drops steer the details. When goblets offer ascensions, choose the option that strengthens the pattern already forming. A modest upgrade that fits your current guns and scrolls is usually better than a flashy upgrade with no support.

2. Treat Every Room Like a Survival Puzzle

Gunfire Reborn rewards aim, but room control matters just as much. Most enemies attack from range, while others rush you or pressure your cover. Clear weak enemies before they crowd your movement, use walls and pillars between reloads, and keep a dash ready for large projectiles or melee pressure.

Precise shots can deal higher damage through weak spots, so practice aiming at heads, exposed cores, or other weak points instead of spraying into bodies. When a room starts badly, stop tunneling the biggest target. Move, reload safely, cut down adds, and rebuild control.

3. Read Weapon Inscriptions Before You Upgrade

Weapons are random drops, and their inscriptions can matter more than the base weapon name. A familiar gun with weak inscriptions may fall behind a stranger weapon with strong elemental, crit, projectile, or lucky shot bonuses. Early on, swap freely. Later, start asking whether a weapon fits your hero, scrolls, ascensions, and boss needs.

Spend copper with intent. Peddlers can keep you alive or refill a weak kit, while Craftsman upgrades help when you have a weapon worth carrying forward. If the inscriptions do not match your direction, save enough copper to pivot when a stronger drop appears.

4. Build Around Scrolls Instead of Hoarding Them Blindly

Occult scrolls give passive effects and can reshape a run. Some are simple bonuses, while others come with conditions, tradeoffs, or interactions that only shine with the right hero and weapon setup. Read the text carefully, especially when a scroll changes defense, ammo, cooldowns, movement, elemental effects, or pickup behavior. A defensive scroll may look boring, but staying alive through one more boss often matters more than a small damage bump.

5. Use Elements to Solve Enemy Types

Elemental damage is one of the easiest ways to make early runs feel less random. Fire, lightning, and corrosion can trigger status effects, and mixed elemental pressure can become powerful. If your main weapon melts health but struggles against shields or armor, keep a backup that covers the gap. Bosses and elites can resist some crowd-control style outcomes, so keep raw weapon reliability in mind too.

6. Visit Vaults When Your Run Can Handle Risk

Vaults hide extra fights, trials, and rewards behind cracked-wall routes. They can push a run ahead with more scrolls, weapons, and money, but they also add danger. A strong run should usually check them because extra choices compound quickly. A weak run should pause first: do you have healing, ammo, damage, and enough defensive room to survive a bad trial?

7. Choose Ascensions for Synergy, Not Rarity

Golden Goblets offer hero-specific ascensions that reset at the start of each run. Their value depends on the build around them. If your current weapons already apply elemental effects often, an elemental or skill-supporting ascension can become the center of the run. If you have strong weapon inscriptions, a weapon-focused ascension may beat a skill upgrade that looks stronger on paper.

Avoid splitting too many directions. One ascension for survivability is useful; three unrelated damage paths can leave the run unfocused. By the second act, you should be able to describe your plan in one sentence: elemental spread, crit weapon damage, secondary skill spam, close-range durability, summon pressure, or another clear theme.

8. Spend Soul Essence With Long-Term Intent

Soul Essence supports growth across attempts and later systems such as Reincarnation blessings. Spend it with the next several runs in mind, not only the room in front of you. A blessing that fits your hero and current build can carry an act; a random expensive pick can leave you short when a better option appears later.

9. Play Co-op as a Team Build

Co-op is not just solo play with more bullets. Enemy pressure rises, revives become part of the plan, and players can cover different needs. Share weapons that fit another hero better, call out scrolls with major tradeoffs, and avoid dragging the team into vaults or bosses before everyone is ready. Clear nearby threats before reviving so one downed player does not become two.

10. Hedge High-Difficulty Advice Until You See the Mode

Normal, Elite, Nightmare, and Reincarnation layers ask for different discipline. Early clears teach room control and build reading. Higher modes add systems and pressure that can make old habits fail. Move up when you are winning for repeatable reasons, not because one lucky build carried you.

Run Planning

Start each run by identifying your safety tools. Do you have reliable shield or armor recovery, enough range, a way to handle crowds, and a plan for bosses? Damage is exciting, but survival keeps choices coming. Between rooms, slow down. Check ammo, copper, health, scroll text, and weapon inscriptions. Replace weak gear before the boss gate, not after the first failed damage check.

Weapons, Scrolls, and Elements

The strongest beginner habit is comparing combinations, not isolated items. A rapid-fire weapon may be perfect with on-hit effects. A slower weapon may shine with crit bonuses, explosive effects, or a hero skill that creates safe burst windows. Still, do not overcomplicate the run. If switching weapons constantly makes you miss shots and lose track of cooldowns, simplify. A clean two-weapon plan beats a backpack full of half-built ideas.

Co-op and Reincarnation Habits

In co-op, talk before major choices. If one player has a build that wants a specific weapon type or scroll family, let that player take the pickup that completes the plan. In Reincarnation and season-heavy play, read new mechanics inside the run. Pick the option that supports your current hero and team instead of chasing whatever sounded powerful in an older patch.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not force a build before drops appear - Your hero matters, but weapons, scrolls, and goblets decide what the run can actually become.

  2. Do not stand still during reloads - Use cover, dash timing, and enemy spacing so reloads do not become free damage against you.

  3. Do not upgrade every early weapon - Save copper for the weapon that fits your inscriptions, scrolls, ascensions, and upcoming boss.

  4. Do not ignore defensive scrolls - A modest survival boost can carry more rooms than another small damage bonus.

  5. Do not enter every vault on autopilot - Extra rewards are good only if your current kit can survive the trial.

  6. Do not split ascensions across unrelated plans - Focused upgrades scale better than three separate ideas competing for attention.

  7. Do not hoard team pickups in co-op - Give weapons and scrolls to the player whose hero can use them best.

  8. Do not treat old meta rankings as permanent - Seasonal features and weapon adjustments can change high-end picks.
