Silk Worm Beginner Tips - Helicopter and Jeep Guide

Silk Worm tips for helicopter control, jeep turret aiming, co-op coverage, power cells, shields, Goose power-ups, bosses, and Arcade Archives practice.

On this page

Silk Worm is a fast horizontal arcade shooter built around two very different vehicles: a helicopter in the air and a light armored jeep on the ground. The helicopter has familiar free movement and forward or downward fire. The jeep has stricter movement, a jump, and a flexible turret.

That split is the game. Solo players should pick the vehicle that fits their hands, while co-op players should treat the screen as shared territory. This guide focuses on survival habits, vehicle jobs, power-up priorities, and boss preparation for the arcade game and modern Arcade Archives release.

Essential Tips

1. Choose Your Vehicle by Responsibility

The helicopter and jeep are not skins for the same shooter. The helicopter is easier to understand at first because it can fly around the screen, dodge vertically, and keep pressure on enemies from the air.

The jeep asks for more deliberate play. It stays on the ground, jumps over hazards, and uses turret angles to cover threats above, ahead, and behind. Its job is to aim before danger reaches you rather than simply drifting away from it.

2. Keep the Helicopter Low Until the Screen Opens

Flying anywhere does not mean flying everywhere. A low helicopter position gives you time to read incoming fire and use downward fire against ground structures. Move upward to dodge or collect only when the lanes are clear.

The biggest early helicopter mistake is hovering high because it feels safer than the ground. High movement can run you into enemy aircraft, missiles, and boss patterns before you can react.

3. Aim the Jeep Before the Threat Arrives

The jeep is strongest when its turret is already pointed at the next danger. Rotate toward helicopters, turrets, and elevated targets before they are directly above you. A common safe habit is holding an upward-forward angle when the terrain allows it, because that lets the jeep chip away at air targets while still advancing.

Do not wait until an enemy has crossed over your hood to start adjusting. The jeep can fire behind itself, but turning late usually means you are correcting a mistake instead of controlling the wave.

4. Use the Jeep Jump for Hazards, Not Style

The jump is a practical escape button. Use it to clear mines, ground enemies, terrain pressure, and low obstacles that the helicopter can simply fly over. Keep jumps short and planned, because the jeep cannot dodge in midair like the helicopter can.

If a ground hazard and air fire arrive together, jump only after your turret is angled or the air threat is thinned.

5. Prioritize Turrets and Shielded Ground Threats

Ground defenses are dangerous because they force both vehicles to move differently. The helicopter may need to dip or angle downward to damage them, and the jeep may need to rotate upward or jump around terrain while firing. Remove these threats early so the rest of the wave has fewer ways to trap you.

Some armored threats require timing instead of constant fire. If a target only becomes vulnerable during a window, hold a safe lane until it opens.

6. Treat Power Cells as Survival Upgrades

Power cells increase your firepower, which makes later waves easier to control. When one appears, create a safe route to it and collect it before drifting back to your normal lane.

Survival still comes first. If the item is across a boss pattern or active mine cluster, wait for a better line or let it go.

7. Destroy the Goose When You Can Do It Safely

The Goose is a major power-up opportunity because destroying it can reward weapon improvement. It can appear during normal play and may even interrupt a boss fight, which makes it tempting and dangerous at the same time.

When it appears, shift damage toward it only if both vehicles still have room to dodge. If the boss is already filling the screen, survival takes priority over forcing the Goose kill.

8. Use Shields for the Moment You Are In

Shields can protect you, and some versions or situations let shield pickups be shot for a screen-clearing effect. That creates a real choice: take protection when you expect a dense pattern, or detonate the opportunity when the screen is already crowded.

For beginners, direct protection is usually the simpler choice. Once you know the stage better, start using shield opportunities to clear specific waves or stabilize a boss approach.

9. Split Co-op Jobs Instead of Stacking Fire

Co-op is where Silk Worm’s design makes the most sense. The helicopter should handle airspace, fast repositioning, and downward pressure. The jeep should watch ground lanes, mines, turret angles, and enemies that slip past the helicopter.

Call out power cells, shields, and Goose spawns before both players chase the same thing. If the helicopter dives for an item, the jeep should keep firing rather than jump into the same danger.

10. Reset Before Every Boss

Stages end with boss fights, so treat the final stretch of each stage as preparation. Stop chasing risky bonuses, return to a stable lane, and check which vehicle has the better angle on the boss. The helicopter often has easier repositioning, while the jeep may need to settle into a turret angle before the fight becomes crowded.

Do not enter a boss while still reacting to the last small enemy. Clear the immediate screen, make room, then focus fire. If the Goose appears during a boss, decide quickly whether the reward is worth splitting damage.

11. Use Arcade Archives Settings for Practice

Modern Arcade Archives releases let you adjust settings, display options, and high-score goals around the original game. Use those tools to learn vehicle control, turret angles, and boss approaches without pretending every practice run is the same as an arcade-default credit.

For improvement, change one thing at a time. Practice the jeep on easier settings if needed, then return to normal difficulty once your turret habits are automatic. Use rankings when you want a score target, but build survival first.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not treat the jeep like a slow helicopter - its turret angles and jump are the reason to choose it.

  2. Do not hover high with the helicopter by default - low movement gives you more reaction time.

  3. Do not rotate the jeep turret after enemies pass you - aim before the wave reaches your position.

  4. Do not jump every obstacle automatically - check air fire before committing the jeep to a jump.

  5. Do not ignore ground turrets - they force awkward movement and make later enemies harder to dodge.

  6. Do not chase power cells through active fire - collect upgrades from a safe route.

  7. Do not tunnel on the Goose during a boss - take the reward only when the screen is under control.

  8. Do not waste shields during calm sections - save protection or screen clears for real pressure.

  9. Do not crowd your co-op partner - split air, ground, item, and escape responsibilities.

  10. Do not compare practice settings to default credits - use easier settings to learn, then test fundamentals cleanly.
