Super Bomber Man 2 Tips

Beginner Super Bomberman 2 tips for bombs, power-ups, bosses, Battle Mode, and surviving the original SNES maze-action game.

On this page

Super Bomberman 2 is at its best when you treat every screen like a small puzzle with a fuse burning down. This is the original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom game, not NES Bomberman II, Super Bomberman R, or Super Bomberman R 2. The fundamentals are simple: place bombs, escape the blast, clear enemies, break the right targets, and reach the exit. The pressure comes from doing that without trapping yourself.

Normal Game is a solo run through maze stages and boss fights, while Battle Game is the competitive mode for multiple players. The same bomb logic matters in both, but the goals are different. In story stages, survival and steady clearing matter most. In Battle Game, space control and reading other players matter more than rushing for every item.

Essential Tips

1. Leave Yourself an Exit Before Every Bomb

The easiest way to lose a life is to place a bomb because the target looks obvious, then notice too late that the blast covers your only route. Before pressing the button, check the lane behind you and the lane beside you. If both are blocked by walls, enemies, or another bomb, wait until you have a safer angle.

Think one blast ahead. Bombs clear blocks and enemies, but they also create temporary walls until they explode. Good play means placing bombs from the edge of danger, stepping away early, and returning only after the explosion has opened the board.

2. Clear the Objective, Not the Whole Room

In Normal Game, your job is to defeat enemies, destroy capsules, and open the exit. That does not always mean every soft block needs to be cleared. Extra items help, but over-clearing can waste time and create more chances to make a positioning mistake.

Prioritize capsules, enemies that patrol near the exit route, and blocks that may give you enough space to move safely. Once the exit is open, shift from item hunting to escape planning. A clean exit with modest upgrades is better than losing your progress while chasing one more panel.

3. Build Bomb Count and Firepower Gradually

Extra Bomb and Extra Fire Power are the foundation upgrades. More bombs let you control several lanes at once. Longer flames make each bomb more threatening and help you reach targets from safer positions. Together, they turn slow single-lane clearing into real board control.

The risk is overconfidence. More firepower also makes your own blast harder to escape. When your range grows, stand farther away than you did at the start of the stage. Long flames are strongest when you plan around them instead of treating them as free damage.

4. Value Remote Control for Boss Safety

Remote Control changes the rhythm because you can choose when bombs detonate. That is useful in normal rooms, but it becomes especially important against bosses and moving targets. Instead of waiting for a fuse to line up, you can place a bomb, move out, and trigger it when the target crosses the blast.

Do not mash the detonation button just because you have control. Let the boss or enemy commit to a path first. Remote bombs reward patience: set the trap, protect your escape lane, then detonate when the hit is likely.

5. Use Kick and Power Glove as Positioning Tools

Kick and Power Glove are not just flashy upgrades. Kick lets you send a bomb down a lane, then stop it with the correct button. Power Glove lets you pick up and throw a placed bomb. Both tools help you attack from safer positions and reach enemies or capsules without standing next to them.

Practice these techniques in lower-pressure rooms before relying on them during a boss. A kicked or thrown bomb can save time, but a careless one can also block your movement or land where you need to run. Use them to improve spacing, not to make every move faster.

6. Treat Heart as a Backup, Not a Plan

Heart lets Bomberman survive a fatal hit, which makes it one of the most comforting items in the game. It should not change your basic habits. If you start walking through risky lanes because you have protection, the item only delays the same mistake.

Play as if the Heart is not there. Keep escape routes open, respect blast range, and wait for safe boss windows. Then, when a bad bounce, mine, or enemy movement catches you, the Heart can preserve a run that was otherwise being played well.

7. Slow Down When the Stage Adds Hazards

Later stages add more than tougher enemies. The Dark Stage includes invisible mines, and Battle Mode arenas can add ice, holes, coils, teleporters, conveyors, bomb arrows, and other gimmicks. These features punish autopilot movement.

When a stage gimmick appears, spend the first moments learning how it changes safe movement. Walk instead of sprinting through unknown lanes. Watch where bombs travel after a kick. Let hazards reveal their rhythm before you commit to a tight route. Super Bomberman 2 is usually less about speed than about not giving the board an easy mistake.

8. Be Patient With Boss Damage

Boss fights punish greedy bomb placement. Community route notes describe standard mini bosses and bosses as taking multiple hits, and defeat at a boss can send you back through the mini-boss fight. That makes patience more valuable than forcing a hit from a bad angle.

Set bombs where the boss is likely to move, then leave before the pattern closes in. If a boss attack fills part of the arena, move first and attack second. One safe hit at a time is enough. Taking a hit to maybe speed up the fight usually costs more time than it saves.

9. Separate Story Habits From Battle Habits

Normal Game rewards clearing objectives safely. Battle Game rewards controlling opponents. In Battle Game, a bomb can be useful even if it does not hit anyone, because it cuts off a lane, pressures a corner, or forces another player toward a hazard.

Use match settings thoughtfully. AI difficulty, battle count, timer, team rules, and G-Bomber rewards all change the tone. Simple arenas are best for learning spacing. Gimmick arenas are better once everyone understands how kicked bombs, hazards, and item swings can decide a round.

10. Know When Jumping Actually Applies

Jumping is not a general story-mode tool in this game. It appears as a Battle Game feature tied to a specific jump-enabled arena. In normal stages, your survival comes from lane movement, bomb spacing, item use, and timing, not from jumping over danger.

That distinction matters if you are coming from another Bomberman game or watching different series footage. Do not plan story-stage escapes around a move Bomberman does not have there. Plan around open lanes, safer bomb placement, and the items you have actually collected.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not trap yourself with your first bomb - check your escape lane before placing it.
  2. Do not clear every block by habit - focus on enemies, capsules, exits, and useful space.
  3. Do not stand too close after gaining firepower - longer flames punish old spacing.
  4. Do not detonate Remote Control bombs too early - wait until the target enters the lane.
  5. Do not kick bombs without a plan - a moving bomb can block the route you need next.
  6. Do not waste Heart protection on careless movement - treat it as backup for a good run.
  7. Do not rush the Dark Stage - invisible mines make slow movement safer.
  8. Do not use Battle Mode habits in story rooms - the objective and available tools are different.
