In this The Outer Worlds Build Guide, we will be focusing on creating the ultimate Space Cowboy. This build specializes in using Handguns to quickly eliminate large groups of enemies at close or mid-range. If you have been searching for an effective Pistol Build, look no further. We will discuss Attributes, Skills, Perks, Weapons, Armor, and practical tips in the Outer Worlds to help you master the Space Cowboy.
Space Cowboy Attributes
Attributes are a key aspect of any build, as they cannot be respeced. For a Pistol Build, you need to prioritize Attributes that increase damage, and speed reload. Specifically, Intelligence, Perception, and Dexterity. To achieve 3 Dexterity, 3 Perception, and 2 Intelligence, you must sacrifice 1 Strength and 1 Temperament.
Perception is the most important attribute, boosting Headshot/Weakspot Damage and Handgun proficiency. Intelligence contributes to Critical Damage and Science, while Dexterity enhances Reload Speed and further boosts your Handguns skill.
Space Cowboy Skills
For this build, we primarily focus on Handguns and Science. Handguns allows you to maximize your damage output, increasing Critical Chance, Armor Penetration, and Critical Damage. Science improves non-physical damage and simplifies the task of tinkering your guns to higher levels. We also suggest investing in Dialog Skills to reduce vendor prices and gain more Bits for weapon tinkering.
Space Cowboy Perks
Perks don’t play a huge role in most builds, but there are a few that are especially effective for the Space Cowboy. Some crucial Tier 1 Perks include Toughness, High Maintenance, Quick and the Dead, and Pack Mule. Important Tier 2 Perks are Harvester, The Reaper, Scanner, and Run And Gun. Lastly, Tier 3 Perks such as Confidence, Revenge, and Armor Master are beneficial for the build.
Space Cowboy Weapons & Armor
A combination of various Pistols works best for the build. Some excellent Pistols to consider include The Vermin/The Vermin II, Ultimatum/Ulti-Nature, Shrink Ray, and Salvager’s Helper. Each has its unique perks and usage scenarios, but be sure to have different Pistols with varying damage types.
For armor, prioritize items with high durability and use the Certified Explorers Hat to increase Perception and complete your Space Cowboy look.
Final Tips
Early on, you may not have access to the Pistols mentioned above. Keep an eye out for the Salvager’s Helper on Groundbreaker and bump up your Science skill to 40 to reduce tinkering costs. Be prepared to swap Pistols mid-battle for optimal damage output, and leverage the fast weapon swapping feature of Pistols. Good luck on your journey in The Outer Worlds!
