Welcome to our Divinity: Original Sin 2 guide where we reveal the top 10 skills that can enhance any build, whether you’re a melee fighter, ranger, or mage. Some skills may be better suited for specific builds, but these skills can be used effectively across the board. If you’re looking to improve your current build, take a look through our list of essential skills.
Note: Source Skills are not included in this guide, as they generally belong to specialized builds. However, one excellent Source Skill to consider for any build is Skin Graft. It’s arguably the best all-around skill in the game, provided you have access to Source Points. Skin Graft can increase the versatility of any build and significantly enhance its power.
Top 10 Divinity: Original Sin 2 Skills
- Adrenaline: The absolute best utility skill to have during combat, Adrenaline vastly improves any character’s performance by granting an additional 2 AP for your turn. While it does cause you to lose 2 AP on your following turn, its correct usage often leads to better outcomes in battle. Adrenaline only requires 1 point in Scoundrel, making it easily manageable for every character.
- Fortify: This skill boosts Physical Armor and protects against certain status effects, including preventing you from being teleported, which can be a significant advantage later in the game. Since managing your Armor is key to success in Divinity: Original Sin 2, Fortify is a must-have skill for only 1 point in Geomancer.
- Armor of Frost: Similar to Fortify but for Magical Armor, Armor of Frost is another crucial skill in maximizing your defenses. It also clears and protects against multiple CCs and status effects. This skill is accessible from the beginning of the game and only requires 1 point in Hydrosophist.
- Teleportation: As arguably the most versatile utility skill in the game, Teleportation has countless applications in and out of combat. Requiring just 2 points in Aerotheurge (and making it even more enticing if you also take Uncanny Evasion), Teleportation is fantastic for both ranged and melee characters for positioning and battlefield control.
- Uncanny Evasion: Granting a 90% Dodge Chance, this skill protects against most Weapon-based attacks, making it suitable for both ranged and melee characters. Although it doesn’t protect against undodgeable spells, it can keep you safe from harm while enemies waste their turns futilely attacking you. Uncanny Evasion requires 2 points in Aerotheurge.
- Chameleon Cloak: Great for both in and out of combat scenarios, Chameleon Cloak turns characters invisible, making them harder to hit or allowing stealthier movement. Requiring only 1 point in Polymorph, this skill is ideal for protecting your characters at the end of their turns.
- Tactical Retreat: As one of the best mobility skills in the game, Tactical Retreat costs just 1 AP and grants an extra AP for the following turn, making it perfect for ranged characters to quickly move out of danger and maintain the increased damage from elevation granted by the Huntsman passive.
- Challenge: This Warfare skill not only boosts both Physical and Magic Armor but also grants a damage boost if you manage to kill the target within the challenge’s turn limit. Every character with at least 3 points in Warfare should consider adding Challenge to their skillset.
- Dominate Mind: Although high Summoning investment is required to make the most of Dominate Mind, it is incredibly effective at crowd control. Dominated enemies are removed from the fight for 2 turns while they fight for you, making it a powerful skill for any build that focuses on Summoning or has Summoning bonuses from gear.
- Bone Cage: Providing a valuable method for replenishing Physical Armor, Bone Cage absorbs surrounding corpses to create a shield. While it may not be as useful for ranged characters, melee units can significantly benefit from this skill, making it worth considering for fortifying your defenses.
We hope this guide helps you enhance your current build in Divinity: Original Sin 2. Remember, it’s essential to manage your defenses and make full use of these versatile skills to ensure the best outcomes in combat. Good luck, Sourcerers, and may Rivellon be ever in your favor!
