Cold, Cold Heart is a focused story add-on built around Mr. Freeze, GothCorp, frozen victims, and Batman’s Extreme Environment suit. It still plays like Arkham Origins, but the cold-themed enemy mix changes your priorities. Cryo weapons can stop your momentum, ice blocks doors and vents, and several side objectives become easier if you mark them early instead of saving everything for the end.
Use this as a spoiler-light field guide. It assumes you want to finish the DLC smoothly, collect the main side objectives with less backtracking, and avoid letting the new freeze tools break your normal freeflow rhythm.
Essential Tips
1. Treat Cryo-Gun Thugs As Priority Targets
Cryo-gun enemies are the biggest regular threat in Cold, Cold Heart because they can interrupt Batman, freeze him in place, and turn a normal brawl into a damage spiral. When one appears in a group, deal with that enemy before you chase easy hits on basic thugs.
Approach them like armored targets. Stun, close distance, and commit to a beatdown or a special combo takedown when your meter is ready. If two cold-weapon enemies are present, use Batarangs and movement to split their timing, then remove one before the other can keep freezing your approach. In mixed groups, the order is usually cryo weapon first, firearm second, then knife, shield, martial artist, and basic enemies as the room allows.
2. Scan Frozen Victims Before You Can Rescue Them
The DLC places frozen victims across the reduced Gotham map and inside story areas. You cannot free many of them until Batman receives the XE suit, but you can still analyze victims earlier so their positions are marked for later.
This is one of the cleanest ways to reduce cleanup. When you glide through Coventry or Diamond District and see a frozen officer or civilian, stop long enough to mark the spot. Do the same in GothCorp when the route takes you past trapped guards. Later, once the thermal gear is active, your map becomes a checklist instead of a memory test.
3. Use The Opening To Relearn The Route
Cold, Cold Heart starts with Bruce Wayne at Wayne Manor, then moves through indoor stealth, combat, hostage pressure, and a return to Batman’s normal kit. Do not rush this section as if it is just story setup. It teaches the DLC’s rhythm: armed enemies in tight rooms, ice blocking paths, civilians to protect, and freeze weapons that punish standing still.
Play the opening patiently. Use predator tools when the room favors stealth, use quick gadgets to start brawls cleanly, and watch for alternate exits through vents, ledges, and damaged spaces. The same habits matter later in GothCorp.
4. Clear Anarky Riots Early
The Gotham portion gives you Anarky riots while the map is limited to Coventry and Diamond District. Clearing them early keeps the overworld tidy and can unlock useful thermal upgrades after the XE suit arrives.
The bomb riot is the important one to respect. Once the timer starts, stop styling on enemies and focus on a fast, clean fight so you have time to disarm the device. In the simpler riot fights, use them as warmups for the DLC’s enemy mix. You are also likely to pass tags and frozen victims on the way, so take a few seconds to scan anything obvious before moving on.
5. Think Of The XE Suit As A Tool Layer
The XE suit is not a totally different combat system. It adds thermal answers to cold obstacles while preserving most of Batman’s usual Arkham habits. Once it arrives at My Alibi, you can break through certain ice barriers, free frozen victims, use Thermal Batarangs, and rely on heat-based moves where the DLC expects them.
That means you should keep your normal fundamentals: counter on time, vault away from bad angles, disable firearms, manage shields and knives correctly, and use Detective Vision to read rooms. The suit solves ice problems. It does not excuse sloppy positioning.
6. Use Thermal Batarangs On The Room, Not Just Enemies
Thermal Batarangs are more than a damage flourish. They melt frozen panels and locks, trigger switches, thaw traversal points, and drop overhead ice hazards in certain fights. Before jumping into a room, look up and around for frozen objects that can change the encounter.
If a stalactite or icicle is positioned above enemies, use it to start the fight with a free takedown opportunity. If a switch or button is iced over, thaw it before assuming you missed a path. In predator spaces, check whether frozen vantage points or devices need a thermal hit before you can move comfortably.
7. Keep Detective Vision In Your Rotation
Detective Vision is especially useful here because the DLC hides practical tasks inside icy clutter. It helps spot frozen victims, Anarky Tags, crime-scene clues, chemical trails, switch boxes, armed enemy layouts, jammers, and pathing clues in GothCorp.
Use it in short pulses rather than leaving it on forever. Sweep the room, identify the next useful object, then return to normal view so you can read enemy animations and traversal geometry clearly. This balance keeps you from missing clues without turning combat into a blur.
8. Handle GothCorp Like A Predator Map First
GothCorp mixes combat rooms, vents, cold-vapor traversal, security panels, guards, snipers, jammers, and predator spaces. When you enter a new room, assume the first job is control. Find high-value enemies, identify safe perches or vents, and remove armed threats before the room becomes loud.
The Remote Claw and Batclaw still matter. Cold vapor and frozen routes often mean the direct path is wrong, so look for anchor points, vents, ledges, and grates. If you feel stuck, the answer is often above you, behind a vent cover, or attached to a device that needs power.
9. Route Cryodrill Pieces With Cleanup In Mind
After the story points you toward the Cryodrill, the DLC sends you back through Gotham locations such as My Alibi and the hotel area. This is a good time to combine progress with cleanup. Collect obvious tags, free marked victims, and check nearby rooftops before you leave a district.
Do not turn this into a full stop every five steps. The goal is efficient routing, not perfection. If an objective is directly on the way, handle it. If it pulls you far across the map, finish the current story errand first and return with a clearer map.
10. Save Style For After Safety
Arkham combat rewards variety, but Cold, Cold Heart adds enough freezing, firearms, bombs, and mixed enemy types that safety should come first. Build combo through clean strikes, counters, evades, and quick gadget openings. Spend special takedowns on enemies that actually change the fight.
Once cryo guns and firearms are gone, you can chase longer freeflow strings. Until then, keep moving and remove the tools that stop Batman from moving. This is especially important in rooms that add a second wave after the first group falls.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Do not ignore cryo-gun enemies - They can freeze Batman and ruin a stable freeflow chain.
-
Do not wait to mark frozen victims - Scan them when you pass so later cleanup has map icons.
-
Do not rush Wayne Manor blindly - The opening teaches enemy and room patterns that return later.
-
Do not leave Anarky riots untouched - Early cleanup keeps Gotham routing shorter and can support thermal upgrades.
-
Do not treat the XE suit as invincibility - It adds heat tools, but normal Arkham positioning still decides fights.
-
Do not throw Thermal Batarangs only at thugs - Use them on ice, switches, panels, hazards, and room objects.
-
Do not skip Detective Vision sweeps - Short checks reveal victims, tags, clues, jammers, and usable devices.
-
Do not charge into GothCorp predator rooms - Read armed patrols, perches, vents, and jammers before acting.
-
Do not split Cryodrill errands from nearby cleanup - Grab close victims and tags while the route already takes you there.
-
Do not spend takedowns on harmless targets first - Save finishers for cryo weapons, firearms, shields, and other fight-shaping enemies.
