Quick answer: Cold Blood is no longer a perk tree in Cyberpunk 2077 2.x. To keep the precision-revolver playstyle, build around Cool 9 for Focus, Cool 15 for Deadeye, and Cool 20 for Nerves of Tungsten-Steel. Add mobility through Reflexes and survival through Body, Technical Ability, and cyberware. The result rewards controlled headshots, not indiscriminate firing or old Cold Blood stacks.
Content warning: Cyberpunk 2077 contains strong language, intense violence, blood and gore, nudity, and sexual material.
Use this route with the 2.x perk system on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2. It is not a PS4, Xbox One, or pre-2.0 PC build. The core perks do not require Phantom Liberty; you do not need the expansion to start playing this way.
What Replaces Cold Blood?
There is no single replacement that grants the old collection of offensive and defensive stacks. Separate the jobs: Cool supplies your precision shooting, Reflexes supplies movement, and your survival choices handle recovery and protection.
Handgun specialization is now in Cool, not the old Reflexes Handguns tree. You can still invest in Reflexes, but do it for a specific movement unlock rather than expecting every point to improve a revolver perk branch. Likewise, do not search for Cold and Calculating or Coolagulant in the modern menu.
On an imported save, inspect the new tree before spending points. Individual perks can be refunded for free, while the attribute reset is a one-time option. Experiment with perks first; save that attribute reset for a deliberate rebuild.
Attributes and Leveling
Early Priorities
Work toward Cool 9, then buy both ranks of Focus. That gives the build its first recognizable combat rhythm: aim with full stamina, use the brief shooting window, then reassess instead of emptying the weapon automatically.
Take Body 4 and Painkiller early if you need recovery between exchanges. Painkiller enables slow health regeneration during combat; treat it as support, not permission to remain exposed. You can make this small detour before pushing Cool further.
Mobility or More Damage?
Your next major damage destination is Cool 15, with all three ranks of Deadeye. If enemies repeatedly force you out of position, take a movement detour to Reflexes 9: buy Slippery and both Dash ranks. Dash lets you cover more ground than a normal dodge.
Choose the order according to the problem you are experiencing. Missing your opening because you cannot find a safe angle calls for movement. Landing accurate shots but wanting the next precision upgrade calls for Cool. These are attribute milestones, not character-level deadlines.
Finish the Core, Then Support It
At Cool 20, take Nerves of Tungsten-Steel after completing Deadeye. For a straightforward support milestone, Technical Ability 9 opens Health Freak after Glutton for War. Its second rank adds a health-item charge and improves health-item recharge outside combat.
Do not spread points equally across every attribute before reaching your main unlocks. Once the revolver core works, choose further survival or movement investment according to your difficulty setting and preferred pace. There is no requirement to complete several maximum-level trees before this build becomes usable.
The Revolver Perk Package
| Perk | Requirement | What It Does for This Build |
|---|---|---|
| Focus, rank 2 | Cool 9 | Aiming at full stamina starts a short window without shooting stamina costs. |
| Head to Head | Cool 9, completed Focus | A ranged neutralization during Focus resets its duration. |
| No Sweat | Cool 9, completed Focus | Neutralizations during Focus reduce its ending stamina cost. |
| Deadeye, rank 3 | Cool 15, completed Focus | Above 85% stamina, improves headshot and weakspot damage and removes bullet spread. |
| California Reaper | Cool 15, completed Deadeye | A headshot or weakspot neutralization restores stamina. |
| Nerves of Tungsten-Steel | Cool 20, completed Deadeye | During Deadeye, eligible headshots and weakspot hits become guaranteed critical hits. |
Focus and Deadeye are different effects. Focus lasts briefly and charges stamina when it ends; Deadeye depends on staying above its stamina threshold. Head to Head and No Sweat help with the first problem, while California Reaper helps sustain the second.
The capstone applies to revolvers, precision rifles, and sniper rifles, not ordinary pistols. A pistol can share the earlier Cool perks without inheriting that particular critical-hit guarantee.
Weapons and Cyberware
Start with a Practical Revolver
Use a Power revolver whose damage, handling, and reload feel suit deliberate shots. Compare weapons you actually have rather than postponing the build until an Iconic appears. A precision or sniper rifle is a compatible backup if you want another weapon class covered by the same capstone.
Revolvers no longer have a suppressor slot. Treat this as an open-combat loadout. For a quiet alternative, choose a pistol that actually accepts a suppressor, but remember the capstone distinction when judging its performance.
Weapon tier matters. Ordinary weapons cannot be upgraded through the Iconic upgrade path, so replace an aging non-Iconic with a suitable higher-tier drop or purchase. Keep upgrading an Iconic only if you enjoy using it; the label alone is not a reason to abandon a comfortable weapon.
Spend on Survival Before Luxury Bonuses
Most armor now comes from cyberware, and installed implants must fit your cyberware capacity. Check your ripperdoc options when incoming damage becomes the problem. Do not build your defense around the old clothing-mod system; clothing no longer has those mod slots.
No particular operating system is mandatory for the Cool perk loop. Get the weapon and stamina rhythm working before committing your resources to an elaborate cyberware package. Health Freak and Painkiller are useful support choices even while that equipment is still coming together.
Combat Rotation
- Choose a protected opening. Start from cover with a loaded weapon and recovered stamina. Pick a target whose head or weakspot you can track clearly.
- Aim, then fire deliberately. Let Focus remove shooting stamina costs during its window. Avoid spending that window correcting a rushed opening shot.
- Chain only when the next shot is clear. Head to Head rewards a neutralization during Focus; California Reaper rewards finishing with a headshot or weakspot hit. Neither rewards merely firing at an enemy.
- Break the chain when necessary. Reload, recover, or reposition when the angle becomes poor. Dash is an escape tool, but spending stamina on movement can interrupt Deadeye’s high-stamina benefits.
- Re-enter on your terms. Against a durable opponent, expect fewer neutralization-triggered refreshes. Use shorter exposures instead of assuming your crowd-clearing rhythm will sustain itself.
If the damage feels inconsistent, check stamina and shot placement before replacing every piece of equipment. A capstone that requires Deadeye cannot compensate for fighting below Deadeye’s threshold.
Common Mistakes
- Buying old perks by name: Cold Blood and its former stack package are not available in 2.x.
- Dashing repeatedly before a precision burst: You may spend the stamina needed for Deadeye.
- Treating a hit as a neutralization: Several sustain perks need the enemy defeated, not merely damaged.
- Expecting pistol and revolver capstones to match: Nerves of Tungsten-Steel excludes ordinary pistols.
- Waiting for perfect gear: Practice the Cool loop with a serviceable revolver while improving your defenses.
Summary
Build Cool first, maintain stamina, and take deliberate headshots. Add movement when positioning fails and recovery when survival fails. The modern gunslinger preserves the revolver fantasy without depending on a perk tree that no longer exists.
