Deltarune: Chapter 2 is the second chapter of Toby Fox’s DELTARUNE, built around party battles, ACT choices, sparing enemies, bullet-dodging turns, Castle Town growth, and the Cyber World. Steam lists DELTARUNE as developed and published by tobyfox; console storefront credits can differ.
The full DELTARUNE release includes Chapters 1-5, with more chapters planned as free updates. The free demo remains Chapters 1 and 2. This guide covers Chapter 2 only and avoids Chapter 1-only assumptions, Chapter 3-5 systems, exact route steps, hidden-boss tactics, puzzle answers, and ending details.
Content warning: Official DELTARUNE pages list Teen descriptors for Language, Suggestive Themes, Mild Blood, and Fantasy Violence. This guide stays non-graphic and focuses on play.
Spoiler note: This is a spoiler-light first-run guide. It explains Chapter 2 systems, but it does not give exact recruit lists, alternate-route instructions, secret paths, boss strategies, or late story outcomes.
Essential Tips
1. Treat Chapter 2 as the First Recruit Chapter
Peaceful wins now feed Castle Town.
Chapter 2 introduces recruiting. When you SPARE or PACIFY enough standard enemies of the same type, they can join Castle Town and may unlock activities there. Bosses do not follow the normal recruit rule, so do not treat every fight like a checklist entry.
2. Avoid Violent Defeats if You Care About Recruits
Lost enemies can lock you out of recruitment for that type.
Starting in Chapter 2, defeating a recruitable enemy violently can make that enemy type Lost. If you want a recruit-focused file, default to ACT, SPARE, and PACIFY for standard encounters unless the game clearly pushes you elsewhere.
3. Use the Visible Mercy Percent
Chapter 2 is clearer than Chapter 1.
Chapter 2 shows Mercy progress. Keep using enemy name color and star markers, but also watch the percent so you know when SPARE is ready. This is one of the big practical differences from Chapter 1.
4. Check the Whole Party’s Actions
Kris is not the only peaceful tool forever.
Kris’s ACT command still matters, but Chapter 2 later gives Susie and Ralsei their own single-target action options through their Spell menus. Once those appear, use them; ignoring them makes normal battles take longer.
5. Keep TP Ready for PACIFY
Some peaceful finishes need meter, not another ACT.
Ralsei’s PACIFY can end fights nonviolently against Tired enemies, but it needs TP. If you are close to a peaceful finish, do not spend all your TP before checking whether PACIFY has become available.
6. DEFEND When a Character Has No Better Job
Defense is also meter generation.
DEFEND reduces damage and builds TP. It is especially useful when one party member is waiting for SPARE or PACIFY timing, when you need to stabilize after a messy attack, or when you are saving TP for a later turn.
7. Graze Carefully and Practice in the Dojo
Good movement turns enemy attacks into resources.
Grazing bullets builds TP, but getting hit usually costs more than you gain. Use the Party Dojo to practice battle concepts without risking recruitment progress, then apply careful grazing in real encounters.
8. Use Storage at SAVE Points
Chapter 2 gives you more item breathing room.
Chapter 2 adds Storage for consumable items at SAVE points. Keep immediate healing in your Pocket and move backup items into Storage. Equipment cannot go into Storage, so check weapons and armor separately before major pushes.
9. Move Fusion Materials Into Your Pocket
Malius cannot fuse what is only sitting in Storage.
Item fusing becomes relevant in Castle Town, but fusion checks items in Kris’s Pocket. If you think two items might combine, move them out of Storage before checking fusion options.
10. Read the Near-End Recruit Warning
The game gives you a spoiler-light cleanup cue.
Near the end of Chapter 2, there is a way to check whether you still have recruitable enemies missing, as long as you have not made enemies Lost. Treat that as your chance to clean up standard encounters before pushing on.
11. Save Before Optional-Looking Content
A good save protects discovery without needing a guide.
Chapter 2 has optional and secret-heavy material that can be difficult and spoiler-sensitive. Save before suspicious detours, obvious boss rooms, and late-chapter transitions so you can experiment without committing your whole file.
12. Ignore Later-Chapter Advice for This Run
Chapter 3-5 systems are not Chapter 2 systems.
The current full game goes beyond Chapter 2, but later chapters change parts of Castle Town, Storage capacity, Dojo behavior, and route context. Use Chapter 2-specific advice while you are still in Chapter 2.
Combat Habits
| Habit | Why It Helps |
|---|---|
| Start standard encounters with ACT planning | Most recruit-focused wins need nonviolent progress |
| Watch Mercy percent | Chapter 2 shows when enemies are close to SPARE |
| Use S-Action and R-Action when unlocked | Party actions speed up peaceful battles |
| Keep at least some TP banked | PACIFY and some actions need meter |
| DEFEND with idle characters | It reduces damage and builds TP |
| Graze only when controlled | TP is useful, but taking hits wastes the advantage |
| Practice in the Party Dojo | Dojo battles do not risk Lost recruits |
| Save before optional detours | You can explore without locking in bad resource use |
Chapter 2 Scope
| Topic | Chapter 2 Guidance |
|---|---|
| Free access | Chapter 2 is part of the free Chapter 1&2 demo |
| Full release | Current official pages say Chapters 1-5 are available in the paid full game |
| First-time order | Play Chapter 1 first if this is your first DELTARUNE run |
| Recruits | Recruiting starts here for standard enemies |
| Lost enemies | Violent defeats can block recruitment for that enemy type |
| Mercy display | Use visible Mercy percent plus yellow/starred enemy names |
| Storage | Consumable Storage starts in Chapter 2 at SAVE points |
| Fusion | Put candidate items in the Pocket before checking Malius |
| Optional content | Save and prepare, but avoid secret-route guides on a blind run |
| Later chapters | Do not apply Chapter 3-5 systems to Chapter 2 without checking |
Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Do not apply Chapter 1 Mercy habits blindly - Chapter 2 shows Mercy percent, so use that extra information.
-
Do not fight standard enemies on a recruit-focused file - Violent defeats can make recruitable enemy types Lost.
-
Do not forget PACIFY timing - A Tired enemy may be ready for Ralsei before another ACT is useful.
-
Do not ignore Susie and Ralsei’s action options - Once S-Action and R-Action appear, they can shorten peaceful encounters.
-
Do not fill your Pocket and forget Storage - Chapter 2 gives you Storage for consumables, but you still need the right items accessible.
-
Do not leave fusion materials in Storage - Malius needs items in Kris’s Pocket to fuse them.
-
Do not skip the Party Dojo forever - It is a low-risk way to sharpen dodging, TP, and battle habits.
-
Do not read alternate-route instructions casually - They can reveal major choices, boss context, and outcome details.
-
Do not assume later-chapter guide numbers apply - Storage, Castle Town, Dojo, and route context change after Chapter 2.
