Knights of the Round Beginner Tips

Beginner tips for Knights of the Round, covering characters, blocking, level-ups, item splitting, horses, co-op, and health management.

On this page

Knights of the Round looks like a sword-and-axe brawler, but good runs depend on timed blocking, smart character choice, careful item handling, and using level-ups as part of your health plan.

For a first clear, keep the goal simple: pick a character you understand, avoid being surrounded, block only when you can time the hit, and treat every food or treasure drop as a decision.

Essential Tips

1. Pick the Knight That Matches Your Habits

Arthur is the safest first choice because his speed, power, and reach are balanced. Lancelot is faster and comfortable for repositioning, but his lower damage shows up during bosses. Perceval hits hard with a shorter axe range, so use him when you can stay close without getting pinned.

2. Treat Blocking as a Timed Counter Tool

Blocking is not a shield you hold forever. The important habit is to face the incoming attack, start the guard near the moment of impact, then use the brief opening to answer back. If you hold the guard too early, your knight can tire and drop it at the worst time.

Practice this against readable enemies before relying on it against bosses. A good block prevents damage and gives you a short chance to counter. A lazy block can leave you frozen in front of an enemy swing.

3. Keep Enemies on One Side

Like most lane-based brawlers, Knights of the Round becomes much harder when enemies attack from both directions. Use vertical movement to group enemies, then step to a side so your weapon controls the front of the crowd.

This matters even more because the game does not revolve around easy crowd throws. Your safest offense is usually a controlled line of enemies in front of you, not a messy pile around your character.

4. Use Desperation Attacks Sparingly

The attack-plus-jump move can clear pressure, but it costs vitality. That makes it a reset button, not a normal combo starter. Spend it when you are boxed in, about to lose more health than the move costs, or trying to prevent a chaotic co-op collapse.

If one or two weak enemies are in front of you, solve the problem with movement, normal attacks, or a timed guard.

5. Plan Around Level-Up Healing

Experience is not just score decoration. Defeating enemies, collecting treasure, and clearing stages push your character toward level-ups, and a level-up fully revitalizes you. That means your health bar and experience bar are connected.

If you are close to leveling, play a little more cautiously before spending precious health recovery. If you are far from a level-up, do not pretend one is coming soon enough to save you.

6. Split Items When It Is Safe

Many non-special items can be broken into smaller pieces. This can help with experience optimization and sharing, especially in co-op. It is worth doing when the screen is calm and everyone has time to collect.

Do not split items in the middle of active danger just because it is technically efficient. A perfect pickup plan that gets interrupted by a boss or enemy rush is worse than taking the simple reward and moving on.

7. Use Food Differently at Full Health

Food is health when you are hurt, but at full health it can become experience value. That creates a small but important choice. If you are safe and already healthy, taking food can still help your level progress. If a teammate is hurt, let the person who needs the recovery take it.

In solo play, do not leave food behind automatically just because your bar is full. In co-op, the injured knight should be closest to the food while healthy players avoid grabbing it by accident.

8. Respect Red and Green Orbs

The orb items can swing a bad screen. Red turns defeated enemies into experience items, while green turns defeated enemies into food. The difference matters. Red is stronger when you want level progress; green is better when health recovery is the priority.

If you can choose the timing, wait until enough enemies are present for the item to matter.

9. Mount Horses With a Plan

Horses increase pressure and mobility, and they can stampede through enemies. They are not free invincibility. You still need to steer, manage your attack range, and watch for enemies who can take the mount away.

Arthur and Lancelot benefit naturally from the added reach and speed. Perceval can still use horses well, but his shorter weapon makes careless mounted fighting less forgiving. If you get a horse, use its movement to control space instead of charging blindly into the next crowd.

10. Coordinate Experience in Co-op

Three-player co-op is fun, but it spreads experience and item decisions across the team. Since level-ups restore health and improve stats, one player grabbing every treasure drop can make the group weaker over time.

Let wounded or underleveled players take key pickups when the screen allows it. Rescue ally knights quickly, split safe items, and avoid turning every reward into a race. A team that levels sensibly lasts longer than a team that competes for every bag.

Character Choice

Arthur is the clean learning pick: steady reach, simple spacing, and no harsh weakness. Lancelot suits players who value footwork and target switching, though boss damage can take longer. Perceval is the power option; his short range asks for deliberate entries, but his damage and dash reward strong timing.

Blocking and Combat Rhythm

Blocking is the mechanic that separates a button-mashing run from a controlled one. Face the attack, time the guard, counter while the opening is available, then move. Do not stand still waiting for the next hit unless you know the enemy pattern.

Build each fight around short exchanges. Step into range, attack, move vertically, and reset your lane. When a larger enemy or boss winds up, prepare to guard instead of trying to win a trade. If your block lands, answer quickly; if you miss the timing, move away and rebuild space.

Items, Level-Ups, and Co-op

The experience system rewards attention. Treasure, enemy defeats, stage clears, and certain item choices all affect your growth. Level-ups raise your stats, change your appearance over time, and refill health, so experience pickups can matter as much as food.

When a large item drops, quickly decide whether the screen is safe enough to split it. In solo play, splitting can improve the value of a pickup. In co-op, it can also prevent one player from taking everything. If enemies are already closing in, collect first and optimize later.

Food should go where it creates the most survival. A badly hurt player should take recovery. A healthy player can take food for experience only when nobody needs healing. This one habit prevents a lot of unnecessary deaths in multiplayer.

Horses and Stage Hazards

Horse sections are about control, not just speed. A mount lets you attack with more momentum, move quickly, and stampede forward, but it also changes spacing. Give yourself room to steer before charging through enemies.

If enemies can reach the horse, protect it. Losing the mount removes your advantage and can create a scramble. When the screen is crowded, use the horse to knock enemies down and escape lanes rather than parking in the middle of the fight.

Stage timers and bosses also shape your decisions. Moving too slowly can cost a life when time expires, but rushing into every encounter costs health. Clear enemies cleanly, collect only what you can safely manage, and keep advancing after the reward decision is made.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not hold block too early - Time the guard near impact so your knight does not tire and drop protection.

  2. Do not fight from the middle of a crowd - Move vertically and keep enemies in front of your weapon.

  3. Do not spend health-cost attacks on small problems - Save desperation moves for real danger or a trapped position.

  4. Do not ignore level-up timing - Experience can restore your health through a level-up, so watch how close you are before wasting food.

  5. Do not grab every food item in co-op - Let the hurt player recover before healthy players take food for experience.

  6. Do not split items while enemies are active - Break rewards apart only when the screen is safe enough to collect them.

  7. Do not choose Perceval and play at Lancelot range - His power works when you commit to closer, better-timed attacks.

  8. Do not waste horse momentum - Use the mount to control lanes, knock enemies down, and keep moving.
