Limbus Company is a free-to-play ProjectMoon RPG where you manage twelve Sinners, equip them with Identities and E.G.O, and guide them through tactical fights built around skill chains, Clashes, speed, stagger, Sanity, and Sin Resources.
Content warning: Limbus Company carries mature store ratings for violence, blood, drug references, strong language, horror themes, mature or suggestive themes, and loot boxes. This guide stays non-graphic and focused on play.
This guide is for early story, first team building, and the point where combat stops feeling automatic. It avoids current banners, pull rates, specific Identity rankings, event advice, and exact balance numbers because Limbus Company changes through live updates.
Essential Tips
1. Think in Sinners First, Then Identities
The Sinner is the slot; the Identity is the combat role.
Your roster is built around twelve named Sinners. An Identity changes what a Sinner brings to battle, including skills, damage type, status focus, and upgrade needs. Do not treat a new Identity as a completely separate character. Learn which Sinner is filling which job, then swap Identities when a fight asks for different tools.
2. Read the Clash Result Before You Chain Everything
Winning a Clash can cancel the enemy skill, so it is often better than raw damage.
When your skill points into an enemy skill, the two sides Clash. Skill strength and coin results decide who wins. A won Clash can shut down the losing action, which means a safer turn may come from stopping one dangerous enemy skill instead of chasing the largest damage line.
3. Use Speed to Redirect Focused Threats
Fast Sinners can take control of enemy targeting in focused fights.
In focused encounters, higher-speed Sinners can redirect attacks toward their own skills. That lets you protect a fragile ally, force a better Clash, or pull pressure away from someone near a stagger threshold. Before choosing attacks, check who is fast enough to intervene.
4. Treat Stagger as the Main Punish Window
A staggered target loses action and becomes much easier to damage.
Health bars can have stagger thresholds. Crossing one can stop the target and usually makes physical resistance much worse for them. If several skills can push an enemy past a threshold, plan the chain so your strongest follow-up attacks land after the stagger, not before it.
5. Watch Sanity Before Spending E.G.O
E.G.O is powerful, but poor Sanity can make it risky.
Sanity affects coin results and can fall from E.G.O use or other effects. If Sanity drops too low, E.G.O can corrode and become harder to control. Use E.G.O to win important moments, but do not press it just because the button is available.
6. Build Sin Resources on Purpose
E.G.O needs the right colors of fuel.
Skills generate Sin Resources tied to their affinities. If your team cannot generate the affinities your key E.G.O requires, those E.G.O options will sit unused in fights where they matter. When editing a team, look at both damage and the colors the team produces.
7. Use Same-Color Chains When the Turn Allows It
Resonance rewards matching sins, but survival still comes first.
Chaining skills by color or shape can create resonation effects and improve your turn. That does not mean every turn should be a color puzzle. First solve enemy threats, Clashes, stagger timing, and redirects. Then use matching chains when they fit the real fight.
8. Bring Damage Types That Match the Enemy
Slash, blunt, and pierce resistances matter.
Enemies can resist or suffer from different physical damage types, and sin affinities can also change damage. If a fight drags on, the answer may be team composition rather than a perfect chain. Swap in Identities whose skills line up better with the enemy’s weak points.
9. Upgrade a Working Core Before Spreading Thin
Leveling and Uptie choices matter more when your materials are limited.
Experience Tickets improve Identity levels, while Thread supports Uptie and E.G.O Threadspin systems. Early on, pick a core group that clears story comfortably and invest there first. Wide, shallow upgrades can leave every option just short of a key fight.
10. Treat Mirror Dungeon and Events as Changing Modes
Mode rules and rewards can move with updates.
Mirror Dungeons, new Identities, new E.G.O, and events are part of the live game. Learn the evergreen basics, but recheck in-client details before spending premium currency, planning weekly routines, or following any advice about a current event.
First Team Basics
Start with a simple question: what does this team reliably do? A beginner team can work through raw strength, a shared status plan, a shared resource such as Poise or Charge, or repeated resonance of one sin. You do not need a perfect endgame composition to clear early story, but you do need Sinners whose skills produce useful Clashes, damage types, and Sin Resources.
Keep at least one plan visible when choosing Identities. If a Sinner is there for strong Clashes, protect that role. If another is there to generate a needed Sin Resource, do not replace them with an Identity that breaks your E.G.O access. If a fight punishes one damage type, adjust the team instead of forcing the same lineup through bad resistance matchups.
E.G.O choices should support the team rather than sit as decoration. Each Sinner can equip E.G.O by grade, and each E.G.O has its own resource requirements. A spectacular E.G.O that the team cannot fuel is less helpful than a modest one you can actually use during hard turns.
Combat Flow
Most turns should start with threat reading. Check enemy targets, predicted Clashes, speed order, and any Sinner close to stagger. In regular fights, your chain may feel fast and broad. In focused or boss-style fights, targeting matters more because you can choose who contests which enemy action and which part or foe gets pressured.
Coins are the reason Clashes can swing. A skill has base power and coin effects; Sanity helps determine heads outcomes. Do not assume the biggest-looking skill is always best. A lower-cost skill with better odds against the enemy action may prevent more damage than a flashier one that loses.
After immediate safety, look for stagger sequencing. If one skill can cross a stagger line, put enough pressure there early, then aim stronger hits into the exposed target. If no stagger is reachable, choose the turn that leaves your team stable: win key Clashes, avoid wasting damage into heavy resistance, and bank the Sin Resources you will need next.
Resource Habits
Limbus Company uses several resource lanes, so separate combat fuel from account progression. Sin Resources are battle fuel for E.G.O. Sanity is a combat state that affects coins and E.G.O risk. Enkephalin is closer to stamina for story play and can become Modules for other modes. Experience Tickets, Thread, E.G.O Shards, Uptie, and Threadspin all belong to longer-term growth.
That split helps spending decisions. Do not use E.G.O just to see an animation if it drains Sanity before a dangerous wave. Do not spend upgrade materials across every new Identity before you know which team you are actually using. Do not treat live-event rewards as permanent routines. Limbus Company rewards planning, and most early mistakes come from mixing these systems together.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Do not ignore Clashes to chase damage - Stopping a dangerous enemy action can be the strongest play of the turn.
-
Do not chain same-color skills before checking threats - Resonance helps, but a bad Clash can still punish the team.
-
Do not spend E.G.O at low Sanity without a reason - Corrosion risk can turn a powerful button into a dangerous one.
-
Do not build a team that cannot fuel its E.G.O - Match Sin Resource generation to the E.G.O you expect to use.
-
Do not overlook stagger thresholds - Plan strong attacks after stagger when possible, not into full resistance before it.
-
Do not force one lineup into every resistance profile - Swap Identities when slash, blunt, pierce, or affinity matchups are poor.
-
Do not spread upgrades across every option early - A focused core usually clears more reliably than many half-built Identities.
-
Do not follow current banner or event advice blindly - Live-service details change and should be checked in the client.
