Trine Enchanted Edition is the remake of the original Trine campaign, rebuilt with Trine 2-engine presentation, online and local co-op for up to three players, and mid-level saving. This guide is for that Enchanted Edition campaign, not Trine 2, Trine 3, Trine 4, Trine 5, or a bundle launcher page.
The beginner challenge is not just jumping cleanly or fighting every skeleton. Trine is a physics puzzle game where Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief each solve different parts of the same room. A beginner guide can stay simple, but the game itself gets trickier when hazards, enemies, collectibles, and co-op timing all collide.
Essential Tips
1. Switch Heroes Before Forcing a Puzzle
Most rooms are asking for a tool, not one perfect move.
If a gap, lever, hazard, or enemy group feels awkward, pause and ask which hero changes the problem. Amadeus can build or move objects, Zoya can reach wooden grapple points and attack at range, and Pontius can block, smash, and survive close pressure. The wrong hero can make a simple room feel harder than it is.
2. Treat Physics Objects as Temporary Solutions
Boxes and planks are puzzle pieces, bridges, shields, and weights.
The Wizard’s conjured and moved objects are not only for crossing pits. Use them to hold switches, catch falling objects, block projectiles, wedge moving platforms, create step ladders, or knock enemies away. If an object slips, rebuild the idea from a safer spot instead of rushing after it.
3. Use Zoya for Scouting and Safe Damage
The Thief is often the cleanest first answer to enemies and distant ledges.
Her bow lets you remove ranged threats before Pontius has to walk into fire, and her grappling hook turns many wooden beams into movement routes. When a room opens vertically, look up before committing to a ground path. A grapple swing or arrow shot can reveal the easier line.
4. Let Pontius Go First Through Danger
The Knight is your safest way to handle direct pressure.
Use Pontius when enemies are already close, when breakable objects block progress, or when falling rocks and fireballs need a shield. He is not only the combat character; his shield and strength let you stabilize rooms before the more fragile heroes move in.
5. Activate Checkpoints Before Experimenting
Risky physics attempts are much cheaper after a checkpoint.
Checkpoints restore and revive the heroes, so do not ignore one because a collectible is visible nearby. Touch the checkpoint first, then experiment with a box stack, grapple swing, or shield run. That habit matters more as the levels add spikes, lava, collapsing objects, and enemy pressure.
6. Spend Upgrades on Problems You Actually Have
Experience is useful, but upgrade choices are not something to click through blindly.
Experience comes from vials and enemies, and upgrades improve hero abilities after you have enough progress. Before spending, think about what has been slowing you down. If traversal is the issue, Wizard and Thief utility may matter more. If fights are draining health, Pontius or ranged damage can be worth prioritizing.
7. Search High and Low Without Turning This Into a Chore
Secret chests and experience vials reward curiosity.
Every level is built with side paths, vertical pockets, and objects that can be moved into new shapes. Look behind breakable barriers, above platforms, under ledges, and near suspicious wooden structures. Still, do not stall for ten minutes on every missing pickup in a first clear. Learn the room, finish the level, and return later if you want full completion.
8. Save Mid-Level When You Change Goals
The Enchanted Edition’s save-anywhere feature is there for shorter sessions.
Use mid-level saving when you have just reached a checkpoint, cleared a tricky room, or collected a chest you do not want to redo. It is especially useful if you are playing in co-op and the group is about to stop. Saving at calm moments beats saving during a messy fall or fight.
9. Keep Co-op Roles Clear
Three players can make puzzles faster or much noisier.
In co-op, decide who is taking the lead before everyone jumps into the same mechanism. One player can hold a route with Wizard objects, another can scout with Zoya, and Pontius can handle enemies or shield hazards. If two players are moving the same physics setup at once, stop and reset the room.
10. Do Not Import Sequel Habits
Later Trine games look familiar but do not prove this campaign’s rules.
Trine 2 and later entries have their own levels, abilities, balance, and puzzle expectations. If a tip mentions newer powers, four-player rules, later-game mechanics, or Trine 5-style puzzle elements, keep it out of your Enchanted Edition run unless you have checked it in this game.
Know Which Edition You Are Playing
| Version or Context | Use This Guide? | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Trine Enchanted Edition | Yes | This is the remake with Trine 2-engine visuals, co-op support, and mid-level saving |
| Original Trine from the launcher | Partly | The campaign overlaps, but original-version behavior can differ |
| Trine 2: Complete Story | No | Sequel content and mechanics should not be imported |
| Trine 3, 4, 5, or 6 | No | Later entries have different levels and ability sets |
| Trine: Ultimate Collection | Only as ownership context | A bundle is not itself the gameplay ruleset |
If the launcher offers a version choice, pick the Enchanted Edition mode for this guide. If you deliberately choose the original version, keep the broad hero advice but be careful with save, co-op, graphics, and platform assumptions.
Hero Roles at a Glance
| Hero | Best Beginner Use | Watch Out For |
|---|---|---|
| Amadeus the Wizard | Creating boxes, moving objects, weighting switches, building routes | Trying to solve enemy-heavy rooms while exposed |
| Zoya the Thief | Grappling, ranged attacks, scouting vertical paths, reaching wooden anchor points | Swinging into hazards or relying on arrows when a shield is safer |
| Pontius the Knight | Close combat, smashing obstacles, blocking projectiles, crossing dangerous pressure | Ignoring puzzle objects and trying to brute-force every room |
Think in handoffs. A clean solution might start with Pontius blocking a hazard, shift to Amadeus placing a box, then finish with Zoya grappling to the ledge. The game is built for that kind of rotation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Do not keep using one hero after the room changes - Switch when the obstacle changes from combat to traversal, or from a jump to a physics setup.
-
Do not rush past checkpoints for a visible collectible - Activate the safe point first, then take the risky route.
-
Do not build Wizard objects while standing in enemy range - Clear or block the immediate threat before solving slowly.
-
Do not swing Zoya blindly into off-screen space - Look for the landing path, then commit to the grapple.
-
Do not treat Pontius as only a damage button - His shield and durability are often the safest puzzle tools in hazard rooms.
-
Do not spend upgrades without a plan - Choose upgrades that solve the problems your run is actually facing.
-
Do not let co-op players fight over the same mechanism - Assign the object mover, the scout, and the defender before retrying.
-
Do not copy Trine 2 or later-series advice automatically - Similar heroes do not mean identical puzzles, powers, or rules.
-
Do not ignore mid-level saving during long sessions - Save after clean progress so a break does not force a repeated room.
-
Do not turn a first clear into a perfect-collection run - Grab obvious secrets, but save exact cleanup for a dedicated route.
