Astro's Playroom Collectibles Guide - Artefacts, Puzzle Pieces, and Labo Cleanup

Plan an Astro's Playroom 100% route for Artefacts, Puzzle Pieces, PS Labo Gatcha rewards, coins, replay cleanup, and update-sensitive Special Bots.

On this page

Astro’s Playroom by Team Asobi is a PS5 platformer where collectibles are the spine of the whole trip through PlayStation history. The clean route is to collect Artefacts and Puzzle Pieces as you clear each world, spend your coins in PlayStation Labo, then use replay and level select for anything you missed.

This guide covers the base 142 collectible route: 46 Artefacts and 96 Puzzle Pieces. The later Special Bot update is tracked as an update-sensitive cleanup item, but exact Special Bot riddles need the current patch and trophy list before this becomes a full add-on checklist.

Artefacts are PlayStation-history objects that end up in PlayStation Labo. Puzzle Pieces build murals in Labo. Coins feed the Gatcha Machine, which means world completion is only the first pass; the route is not finished until the Labo rewards are empty too.

Route Priorities

1. Clear Each World With a Side-Path Habit

Each of the four main worlds has four stages. Treat every stage as a light search route: check the edges before leaving a platform, follow coin trails, pull exposed wires, defeat enemy clusters that seem to guard a patch of ground, and use the current power-up to test suspicious side paths.

2. Watch for the Game’s Repeated Collectible Language

Astro’s Playroom repeats its tells. A golden crate, a cluster of wires, a glass wall, a tucked-away platform, a coin line that bends away from the main path, or a small challenge using the current suit often means a collectible is nearby.

3. Finish the Stage, Then Check the Count

Do not restart the moment you suspect you missed something. Levels are replayable, so finish the stage, note the missing Artefact or Puzzle Piece count, and clean it up through replay. This keeps your first pass moving and reduces random backtracking.

4. Spend Coins Regularly in PlayStation Labo

The Gatcha Machine is part of completion, not a bonus. Save enough coins to roll repeatedly, then return after each world and spend them. If you finish the story short on coins, replay levels and checkpoints instead of re-searching completed collectible routes.

5. Keep Update Content Separate

Special Bots were added later as Astro Bot tie-in content. Track them on a separate line from the base 142 route so you do not mix current patch riddles and add-on trophies into the original Artefact and Puzzle Piece checklist.

World Checklist

Use this as a route scaffold before following a full all-location checklist.

AreaCleanup Target
CPU PlazaCollect 4 Puzzle Pieces and use the hub to enter worlds, Labo, Network Speed Run, and later cleanup routes.
Cooling SpringsSweep Bot Beach, Springy Spa, Frigid Floes, and Hotel Hopalot for 9 Artefacts and 16 Puzzle Pieces.
GPU JungleSweep Renderforest, Teraflop Treetops, Raytrace Ruins, and Mt. Motherboard for 9 Artefacts and 16 Puzzle Pieces.
Memory MeadowSweep Gusty Gateway, Fastlane Fields, Electrocloud, and Bumper Broadway for 9 Artefacts and 16 Puzzle Pieces.
SSD SpeedwaySweep Turbo Trail, Caching Caves, Deep Dataspace, and Orbital Obstacles for 9 Artefacts and 16 Puzzle Pieces.
PlayStation LaboSpend coins in the Gatcha Machine until the 10 Artefacts and 28 Puzzle Pieces from Labo are collected.

Cooling Springs

Cooling Springs is a good model for how the rest of the game hides things. Bot Beach uses islands, umbrellas, pillars, wooden platforms, and wire pulls. Springy Spa adds glass-break side rooms and spring-suit movement. Frigid Floes uses ice routes, throwable items, PlayStation-shaped platforms, and water hazards. Hotel Hopalot hides checks near switches, rotating platforms, freezer rooms, and side rooms.

GPU Jungle

GPU Jungle leans into vertical routes and DualSense power-up movement. When the monkey suit or climbing routes appear, check both sides of the intended path before climbing too far. If a wall, handhold, tightrope, plant curtain, or coin line points away from the obvious route, treat it as a collectible lead.

Memory Meadow

Memory Meadow is safer to handle slowly because wind, clouds, bumpers, and moving hazards can pull your attention toward survival. Search the calm side spaces first, then continue forward. If the stage shifts into a movement sequence, focus on visible Puzzle Pieces and save uncertain misses for replay.

SSD Speedway

SSD Speedway uses speed, rockets, projectiles, and space-themed movement to hide route checks. Collectibles often sit just off the clean racing line, so do not only follow the forward boost path. Watch for alcoves, side platforms, destructible or target-like objects, and coin lines that mark alternate movement.

PlayStation Labo and Gatcha Cleanup

PlayStation Labo is both museum and cleanup sink. Every Artefact you find becomes something you can inspect or interact with there, and Puzzle Pieces fill out the murals. The Gatcha Machine at the back of Labo costs 100 coins per roll and includes completion-critical rewards.

Work in passes:

  1. World pass - Play each world normally and collect visible Artefacts, Puzzle Pieces, and coins.
  2. Labo pass - Spend coins after each world so Gatcha rewards do not pile up until the end.
  3. Replay pass - Re-enter levels with missing world collectibles and use the count to target only the stage that is short.
  4. Coin pass - If the Gatcha Machine still has rewards after the world checklist is done, replay comfortable levels for coins.

The important habit is not to judge completion from the world map alone. You need the Labo Gatcha pool cleared for the full Artefact and Puzzle Piece set.

Speedruns and Special Bots

Network Speed Run stages unlock during the campaign and are selected from CPU Plaza. They are not part of the 142 Artefact and Puzzle Piece count, but they matter for trophy cleanup, especially the combined-time speedrun trophy. Treat them as a post-story skill pass after your collectible route is stable.

Special Bots are separate from the base route. Current official PlayStation Blog posts describe four hidden Special Bots added for Astro Bot, with transfer into Astro Bot after rescue. Because this is patch-sensitive content tied to add-on trophies and update timing, keep a separate Special Bot checklist until the installed game version and trophy list are refreshed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not leave every Gatcha roll for the end - Spending coins as you go makes the final Labo cleanup easier to read.

  2. Do not treat coins as optional after the worlds are clean - Coins unlock completion-critical Labo Artefacts and Puzzle Pieces through the Gatcha Machine.

  3. Do not ignore exposed wires - Wire pulls repeatedly hide Artefacts, Puzzle Pieces, projectiles, or platforms that lead to them.

  4. Avoid rushing through power-up sections - Monkey, spring, rocket, ball, and other DualSense-focused sections often hide side checks near the main route.

  5. Do not restart a whole world for one missed item - Finish the stage, note the missing count, then replay the specific level.

  6. Do not mix Special Bots into the base 142 count - They are later update content and should be tracked separately.

  7. Do not rely on trophy counts from memory - Base platinum, speedrun DLC, and Special Bot add-on trophies need a current PSN list check.
