Spyro Reignited Trilogy Collectibles Guide - Gems, Dragons, Orbs, Eggs, and Skill Points

Plan a Spyro Reignited Trilogy completion route for gems, dragons, eggs, orbs, talismans, speedways, skill points, Moneybags gates, and cleanup.

On this page

Spyro Reignited Trilogy by Toys For Bob, published by Activision, remakes Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. The clean way to complete it is to treat each game as its own checklist: clear visible gems and core collectibles first, unlock movement or character gates, then return for speedway routes, skill points, and postgame bonus areas.

This is a collectibles planning guide for the remake trilogy. It is not a full all-gem location walkthrough, exact trophy/achievement route, boss guide, physical-disc buying guide, or PS1-original guide.

Scope and Availability Caveats

Use this guide for Spyro Reignited Trilogy, not the original PS1 releases. The remake keeps the original trilogy structure but adds modernized trilogy-wide systems such as right-stick camera control, guidebook navigation to visited levels, a mini-map option, roll access across all three games, and Sparx treasure pointing across all three games.

Current digital storefronts list Steam PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox cloud play, and Nintendo Switch availability. PlayStation lists the PS4 game as playable on PS5 with the usual backward-compatibility caveat. Nintendo lists Switch 2 compatibility as supported and shows a 15.1 GB file size. Steam still lists older game OS requirements, but the Steam client itself now requires Windows 10 or later.

Do not buy a physical copy based only on old download claims. Initial physical-release download requirements, later reprints, used-disc behavior, regional boxes, offline install state, and Switch cartridge contents need a fresh packaging check before publication.

Completion Priorities

GameMain Completion TargetsRoute Priority
Spyro the DragonGems, dragons, dragon eggs, flight levels, skill pointsClear each homeworld, finish flights, collect enough treasure for Gnasty’s Loot, then clean up 120%
Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!Gems, talismans, orbs, speedways, skill pointsCollect talismans for boss gates, buy/unlock movement, return for ability-gated gems and orbs
Spyro: Year of the DragonDragon eggs, gems, speedways, Sparx levels, playable-character routes, skill pointsRescue eggs, free playable characters, revisit character-gated areas, then do Super Bonus cleanup

Gems are the through-line. In Spyro the Dragon they are treasure and completion progress. In Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 they also pay Moneybags for access, abilities, portals, or allies, so collecting them early saves backtracking later.

Core Collectible Habits

1. Sweep Before Leaving a Level

Take a slow lap around each main area before using the Return Home portal. Look behind level entrances, around tower bases, under ledges, behind waterfalls, inside buildings, and at the edges of glide routes. Reignited gives Sparx a treasure-pointing function in all three games, so use it whenever the counter says gems remain.

2. Use the Guidebook as Your Cleanup Map

The Reignited guidebook tracks completion and can send you directly to visited levels. Check it after every level instead of trying to remember which homeworld still has missing gems, dragons, eggs, or orbs.

3. Learn Jump, Glide, Hover, Flame, and Charge Timing

Long glides are easier when the second jump/glide input comes near the top of Spyro’s jump. Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 add Hover at the end of a glide, which matters for many late ledges and ability-gated returns. Use Flame against large or unarmored enemies and Charge against armored or shielded enemies.

4. Treat Chests as Their Own Puzzle Type

Not every container opens the same way. Some chests take flame, some take charge, some need a key, and some need a cannon, rocket, supercharge, power-up, or level-specific projectile. If a gem count is short, revisit unopened metal boxes and locked chests before assuming a hidden platform is missing.

5. Keep Health and Lives Stable

Sparx’s color is your health readout. Use fodder enemies for butterflies before risky glides, boss attempts, supercharge routes, or speedways. Skill points award extra lives, but they are optional, so do not turn every first clear into a perfect challenge run.

Game-by-Game Cleanup

Spyro the Dragon

Spyro the Dragon is the most straightforward checklist because Spyro does not unlock acquired movement skills. Most cleanup is about noticing side routes, charging thieves, opening chests, and completing flight levels. Steam community routing material tracks the Reignited first game at 80 dragons, 12 dragon eggs, 14 skill points, and 14,000 total gems when Gnasty’s Loot is included.

Good route order:

  1. Clear each normal level for gems, dragons, and thieves before moving on.
  2. Enter hidden or optional flight levels as soon as you find them, but expect to replay them for the full route.
  3. Use Sparx treasure pointing for leftover gems before leaving a homeworld.
  4. Save boss-perfect skill points for cleanup if you are still learning the arena.
  5. Return for Gnasty’s Loot after the required treasure threshold is met.

Flight levels matter because their gem rewards come from clearing object groups and the all-in-one route. Treat them like route puzzles, not normal exploration levels.

Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!

Ripto’s Rage adds more backtracking. Swimming, Climbing, and Headbash unlock over the first three homeworlds, so some levels cannot be completed on the first visit. Talismans matter for boss access in the first two homeworlds, while orbs and Moneybags gates shape later cleanup.

Good route order:

  1. Finish each level’s reachable gems, talisman, and easy orbs on first visit.
  2. Buy or unlock required movement as soon as the game offers it.
  3. Revisit levels with ladders, underwater routes, headbash rocks, or blocked side areas.
  4. Do speedways after you understand the route and the object order.
  5. Leave tougher skill points until after the main talisman/orb route is stable.

Enemies in Spyro 2 release Spirit Particles for Power-Up gates instead of dropping gems. If you are missing treasure, search containers and level spaces rather than farming already-defeated enemies.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon

Year of the Dragon is the easiest game to over-backtrack too early. Eggs are the headline collectible, gems are still currency, and several routes depend on other playable characters such as Sheila, Sgt. Byrd, Bentley, Agent 9, or Sparx. Some levels cannot be fully completed until a later character has been freed.

Good route order:

  1. Collect the visible eggs and gems in each new world.
  2. Free playable characters when Moneybags gates allow it.
  3. Revisit earlier levels for character-specific side areas and mini-games.
  4. Complete speedways and Sparx stages as separate cleanup tasks.
  5. Save Super Bonus Round cleanup for after the required gems and eggs are secured.

If a level looks complete except for one portal, challenge, or inaccessible room, mark it for later instead of circling the same area for an hour. Year of the Dragon expects revisits.

Flight and Speedway Levels

Flight levels in Spyro the Dragon and speedways in Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 ask you to clear groups of flying targets or objects under a time limit. The important habit is route building:

  1. First run: learn all object groups.
  2. Second run: pick the order with the least turning.
  3. Third run: go for the all-in-one clear.
  4. Cleanup run: attempt speedway skill points, trophy/achievement tasks, or Hunter objectives only after the basic clear is consistent.

Do not judge these levels by normal platforming instincts. Their gems come from completing target groups and one-run bonuses, so one missed object can hide a large amount of progress.

Skill Points and Boss Cleanup

Reignited has 50 skill points across the trilogy: 14 in Spyro the Dragon, 16 in Ripto’s Rage, and 20 in Year of the Dragon. They are optional for completion percentage and achievements, but they award lives and unlock art-gallery rewards. Treat them as a second checklist after the main route.

Boss-perfect tasks should be handled late. Learn the boss route first, then come back for no-damage or perfect conditions. If you fail a perfect attempt during a first clear, finish the fight anyway so the guidebook and world route keep moving.

For trophies and achievements, use a separate platform-specific checklist. The Xbox achievement set has no missable, unobtainable, online-only, or DLC achievements listed, but PlayStation, Steam, and Switch wording can differ.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not leave a level with unopened chests - Locked, metal, projectile, and power-up containers are common causes of missing gems.

  2. Do not ignore Sparx treasure pointing - If the counter is short, use Sparx before replaying the whole level from memory.

  3. Do not grind Spyro 2 enemies for gems - Defeated enemies feed Power-Up gates with Spirit Particles instead of becoming repeat gem drops.

  4. Do not force ability-gated Spyro 2 cleanup early - Return after Swimming, Climbing, or Headbash is available.

  5. Do not assume every Spyro 3 level can be finished on first visit - Later playable characters can be required for side areas and eggs.

  6. Do not treat flight and speedway levels like normal levels - Build an object route, then chase the all-in-one bonus.

  7. Do not chase every skill point before basic completion - Optional perfects, records, hidden objects, and boss constraints are cleaner after the level route is known.

  8. Do not mix original PS1 guides with Reignited checks without verifying - Reignited adds and reorders some systems, especially skill points and shared quality-of-life features.
