Borderlands 2: Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage Tips - Badass Crater Guide

Borderlands 2 Mr. Torgue DLC tips for entering Badass Crater, handling arenas, Torgue Tokens, bosses, and scope.

On this page

Borderlands 2: Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage is a campaign add-on for Borderlands 2, developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. It is not a standalone game: you need Borderlands 2 access before you can play it, and the tips here stay inside this add-on’s Badass Crater tournament.

Content warning: This Mature-rated add-on sits inside Borderlands 2’s violent, crude, alcohol-referencing looter-shooter world. This guide keeps the advice non-graphic and focused on play.

Use this as a spoiler-light first-run guide. It covers entering the add-on, surviving arena pressure, planning around Torgue Tokens, and avoiding confusion with other Borderlands 2 DLC. It does not cover later Borderlands add-ons, Borderlands 3, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, or current balance beyond the current storefront and community-page scope.

Essential Tips

1. Confirm You Are Starting the Correct Add-On

Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage is the Badass Crater tournament DLC, not the base Borderlands 2 campaign and not another add-on. If the setup is about Torgue, Tiny Tina, Moxxi, a new Vault, and a loud arena tournament, you are in the right place. Keep Captain Scarlett, Sir Hammerlock, Tiny Tina’s fantasy campaign, and Commander Lilith advice out of your route planning.

2. Treat Level 15 as the Entry Floor

Normal Mode has a level floor when the first area is set, and the storefront language warns that higher levels get tough. Do not enter just because the DLC opens. Enter when your Vault Hunter has reliable weapons, a class setup you understand, and enough survivability to handle waves rather than one enemy at a time.

3. Bring a Flexible Loadout

Campaign of Carnage leans hard into arena fights, biker enemies, bosses, racing, and repeatable combat events. Bring at least one dependable close- or mid-range weapon, a longer-range option for flying or mobile targets, and enough ammo variety that one dry ammo pool does not end a fight.

4. Use Second Wind Opportunities Deliberately

Arena waves can get messy. When you are close to Fight For Your Life, try to leave a weaker enemy in sight instead of deleting every easy target first. That habit matters in multi-wave fights where one revive opportunity can save a long attempt.

5. Respect Timers Without Panicking

Bar Room Blitz and other challenge-style missions can put you under a clock. Play fast, but do not turn every timer into a reckless sprint. Know where enemies spawn, keep moving between clusters, and reload during short breaks so the final seconds are spent shooting, not recovering.

6. Spend Torgue Tokens With a Plan

Torgue Tokens are Campaign of Carnage’s special currency. The vending machines can be exciting because of high-rarity Item of the Day offerings, but that is exactly why you should avoid impulse purchases. Check machines, decide what your build actually needs, then farm repeatable events when you want to chase a specific upgrade.

7. Expect Vehicles and Arenas to Alternate

This DLC is not only standing in a ring. You will move through crater zones, race, fight bikers, chase arena access, and return to boards or bars. Keep a clean mental split between travel segments and locked-in fights so you do not arrive at a major combat room understocked.

8. Prep Before Boss Doors and Board Turn-Ins

The add-on includes named fights such as Pyro Pete, Motor Momma, Piston’s Blimp, Badassasaurus, Piston, and a post-campaign raid boss option. Before big steps, board turn-ins, and unfamiliar doors, restock ammo, sell junk, and make sure your build is ready so a bad purchase or weak loadout does not drag down the next fight.

9. Separate Main Progress From Cleanup

The mission list includes story missions, side missions, tiered rematches, and collection-style cleanup. Finish enough of the main tournament to open the spaces and boards you need, then clean up side jobs and token farms with better movement knowledge.

10. Use Co-Op as Help, Not a Requirement

The DLC supports solo and co-op play. Friends can help with tougher waves and bosses, but do not build a route that only works with a full party unless you are actually playing that way. Solo players should prioritize survivability and ammo stability; co-op groups should coordinate target focus and revive coverage.

Correct DLCBadass Crater and Torgue’s tournament define this campaign
Character readinessLevel access is not the same as comfort

HealingTimed fights leave little room for sloppy recovery

Pre-fight prepBosses and board turn-ins are cleaner after restocking

Arena and Mission Habits

Campaign of Carnage works best when you treat each board or arena prompt as a commitment. Before accepting a fight, sell junk, reload everything, and check whether your shield and grenade mod still fit the next job. A strong shotgun or explosive weapon may solve one room, but flying targets and mobile bikers can demand different range control.

Wave fights reward controlled aggression. Push into the room enough to trigger enemies and keep the timer moving, then fight from places where you can see escape routes. If enemies rush you, back toward cover instead of crossing the whole arena while reloading. If flying targets are involved, take them seriously early, because letting them circle while ground enemies close in creates expensive healing pressure.

For race or vehicle segments, do not treat combat loot habits as the main goal. Learn the route, hit objectives cleanly, and avoid detours unless the mission gives you room. A failed timer because you stopped for minor loot is worse than returning later when the pressure is gone.

The mission flow includes a lot of side material, but you do not need to finish every optional task the moment it appears. A cleaner first pass is to progress until the main spaces and boards are open, then revisit rematches, collections, and token farms once the crater layout makes sense.

Torgue Tokens and Rewards

Torgue Tokens are the add-on’s clearest long-term reward hook. Story missions and repeatable tiered activities can pay them out, and Torgue vending machines use them for special purchases. Because those machines can tempt you with high-rarity items, check whether the item actually fits your character before spending.

If you want to farm, repeatable arena and bar-style missions are the practical loop. Bring a fast-clearing setup, clear the objective, turn in, check the vending machine, then repeat only while the rewards justify the time. Stop farming when your weapon upgrade solves the next problem; endless token grinding can turn a short campaign into a chore.

Skins, heads, and flashy items are part of the appeal, but damage and survivability matter more on a first run. If your build is struggling, prioritize weapons that help with waves, flying enemies, or tough targets over cosmetic cleanup.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Do not start the wrong DLC - confirm the Badass Crater tournament setup before following this plan.

  2. Do not enter underprepared because the area opens - bring a tested build, not just the minimum level.

  3. Do not carry one favorite weapon only - arena waves, bikers, bosses, and flying targets ask for different answers.

  4. Do not waste easy Second Wind targets - leave a weak enemy available when a fight is turning against you.

  5. Do not ignore timers until the final seconds - move aggressively from the start of timed missions.

  6. Do not spend Torgue Tokens on the first flashy item - buy for your build, then farm more if the machine rotates into something useful.

  7. Do not stop for every small pickup during races - finish the objective first and loot later.

  8. Do not mix advice from other Borderlands 2 add-ons - this campaign has its own boards, arena structure, tokens, bosses, and route habits.

  9. Do not rush boss entrances understocked - restock and check your build before committing to major fights.

  10. Do not treat side cleanup as urgent - open the crater, learn the spaces, then return for rematches and collections.
