The Supper is a short point-and-click horror adventure about preparing three grotesque dishes for guests in Ms. Appleton’s tavern. The game is brief, but it is built on exact hotspot clicks, inventory combinations, and room-to-room sequencing, so a clean route is more useful than broad theory.
Content warning: this walkthrough covers horror themes and implied cannibalistic cooking in non-graphic terms. It stays focused on puzzle order, rooms, and item use.
This route keeps the mystery intact while getting you through the full meal chain.
Route Overview
Think of The Supper as five puzzle blocks.
First, you prepare the tavern. That means lighting the room, checking the recipe list, grabbing the water jug, and triggering the arrival of the three guests. Nothing here is mechanically hard, but it teaches the game’s rhythm: pick up the obvious tool, use it on a very specific hotspot, then revisit the room after the state changes.
Second, you cook the first dish. The route sends you to the dock, gives you an odd improvised projectile, and asks you to turn that into the ingredient for the first customer. This is the game’s way of teaching cartoon-logic inventory use. If an object seems ridiculous, that is often the clue that it matters.
Third, you solve the ship sequence for the second meal. This is the longest block, and it is the place where players are most likely to waste time by moving between screens without finishing each sub-step. The ship section has three linked goals: open access, grow the chili, and collect the cutting tool for the swordfish. Once those are done, the kitchen finish is fast.
Fourth, you complete the jail-and-wax chain for the final meal. This puzzle is less about exploration and more about combining the correct strange parts in the correct order. The room count is small, but missing one pickup can make it feel more opaque than it really is.
Fifth, you trigger the ending. After the last serving, the final interaction is not in the dining room. You need to step back outside, set up the cart sequence, and then use the lever to finish the story.
Keep that five-part structure in mind and the whole game becomes much easier to read.
Essential Tips
1. Sweep Every Room Before Leaving
The Supper is short enough that every room matters. Before changing screens, scan the walls, tables, floor edges, signs, and doors for anything clickable. The game does not bury you in dozens of interactable objects, so missing one tool usually means missing the next step.
2. Treat New Drops as Immediate Clues
When a guest leaves an item behind, that item is almost always the key to the next meal. Do not stash it mentally for later and wander off. Pick it up at once and ask what locked path or blocked object it obviously solves.
3. Finish One Puzzle Chain at a Time
The shortest path is usually the cleanest path. In the ship section especially, it helps to commit to one chain: gain access, collect water, grow the chili, grab the knife, then return to the kitchen. Jumping back and forth too early makes the route feel more complicated than it is.
4. Use the Kitchen as Your Reset Point
When you are unsure what the next action should be, return to the kitchen and look at what changed. The recipe wall, the hanging swordfish, the Special Sauce pot, and the side pot all become relevant at different times, so the kitchen is where many loose puzzle pieces finally connect.
5. Look for Combination Logic, Not Menu Logic
This is not a game about dialogue trees, stats, or loadouts. Progress usually comes from combining a found item with a room object or with another inventory item. If a puzzle stalls, ask which object should be cut, filled, dipped, watered, thrown, or cooked.
6. Do the Obvious Gross Thing
The Supper leans into macabre humor. If a puzzle presents a solution that seems unpleasant but mechanically straightforward, that is usually the intended route. The game rarely asks for a hidden realistic answer when a darkly comic one is already on screen.
7. Save Your Attention for Order, Not Speed
There is no reason to rush. The important part is doing actions in a usable order. Read the room, complete the setup, then move. A slow clean pass is faster than clicking every hotspot at random and backtracking through the whole tavern.
Meal-by-Meal Walkthrough
Opening Preparation
Start in the kitchen and pick up the fire tongs hanging beneath the swordfish. Use the tongs on the ember beside the big Special Sauce pot, then carry that ember to the dining room and light the chandelier. This is the first small state change, and it makes the room feel properly active.
Grab the empty water jug from the table outside the kitchen. If you like to confirm exits and hotspots early, ring the bell and test the path outside before returning to the kitchen. Smell or inspect the Special Sauce to move the scene forward, then go back to the dining room and speak to the three waiting guests. Once each guest has made a request, head outside to begin gathering the first ingredient.
First Meal: Pigeon a la Sauce Rosee
Walk to the far end of the dock and interact with the fisherman. The encounter leaves you with access to the wet boot through the fishing pole. Take the boot and return toward the tavern sign where the pigeon is perched.
Use the boot on the pigeon to knock it down, then pick up the bird and carry it back to the kitchen. Drop the pigeon into the Special Sauce pot to finish the first dish. Return to the dining room and serve that meal to the green-bearded customer.
Once the first guest is dealt with, stop for a second and check the room for the next clue item. The game advances by chaining one guest’s leftovers into the next route.
Second Meal: Spicy Red Swordfish
Pick up the rusty scissors dropped after the first serving and go back outside to the dock. Use the scissors on the rope holding the ladder so you can climb onto the ship. From there, split the task into three parts instead of wandering.
First, enter the captain’s cabin and take the knife. Second, climb down through the trap door and use the empty jug on the puddle to fill it with water. Third, pour that water on the seedling so it grows into the chili pepper you need. Once you have the chili, head back to the kitchen without trying to invent extra ship errands.
In the kitchen, use the knife on the hanging swordfish tail. Combine the cut tail with the chili pepper in your inventory to create the spicy fish ingredient. Put that combined item into the Special Sauce pot, then return to the dining room and serve it to the next customer.
This is the longest puzzle chain in the game, but it becomes simple when you remember the internal order: scissors for access, knife for the fish, water for the seedling, chili for the combination, then kitchen finish.
Third Meal: Hand and Tongue Stew
After the second serving, collect the keys and the tongue left behind in the dining room. Go outside and head left to the jail door. Use the keys to open it, then take the skeleton hand that drops out.
Return to the kitchen and pick up a chunk of solid wax from the barrel. Put the wax into the small side pot so it melts. Once the wax is ready, use the skeleton hand on that pot to make the wax hand. Combine the wax hand with the tongue in your inventory, then drop the combined item into the Special Sauce pot.
Take the finished final dish back to the dining room and serve the remaining guest. If the game seems to pause after that, do not assume the ending has already triggered. There is still one last interaction outside.
Final Cleanup
Step out of the tavern and interact with the wooden cart to push it back toward the building. After that setup, move back through the tavern entrance as needed so the final outside interaction becomes available, then use the lever to finish the story.
If you followed the item order cleanly, there should be no leftover puzzle branch. The ending is the last environmental action after the third meal, not a hidden bonus sequence elsewhere on the map.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not leave the kitchen without the tongs and jug - Those two items anchor the opening setup and the later ship puzzle.
- Do not serve the first meal before picking up the next clue item - Guest drops are the clean handoff into the next route segment.
- Do not board the ship without a plan - The second meal is easiest when you deliberately collect the knife, water, and chili chain in one pass.
- Do not forget to combine the chili with the swordfish tail - The second dish is a combined ingredient, not two separate pot actions.
- Do not carry the skeleton hand straight to the main pot - It needs the wax step first.
- Do not assume the last meal ends the game automatically - You still need the cart and lever cleanup sequence outside.
- Do not overthink the tone - The game uses dark joke logic, so the bluntly macabre interaction is often the correct one.
